What Can I Do?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me if its possible to submit a spouse settlement visa application BEFORE my g/f and I are actually married?

We are getting married in December (New Years Eve to be precise!!) but would like to submit the application in September. Hopefully then the interview wiill be just after we are married.... we hope.

Is this possible or do we have to wait to be married first?

Cheers folks

Hi farangman,

I think that you can still apply for the settlement visa prior to marraige. As on the forms there is a section about it, go to the British Embassy website. I am not sure whether you will be able to work the interview in this way as you have to write the date of marriage on the visa forms. And they might pick this up, that the date is after the application was made. But I am sure you can apply for a settlement visa, providing you get married within 6 months of staying in Uk. But you are better off waiting for "MR Visa" the scouser himself to reply. That boy knows his stuff!!

Bang........

Falangaman,

You can complete the application form, but leave the date of the wedding blank. Write a covering letter in which you say that you will be marrying on (date) and asking for an interview shortly after that date. Send both to the Embassy and they will arrange an interview for after you are married. The current waiting time for an interview is about 20 weeks, so you have the time to arrange this, but don't leave it too long.

Just an after thought about this if you can help further.

Since we will not be married when submitting the application she will still have to apply in her maiden name. Will this then become a problem further down the line?

Thanks

No, your wife using her maiden name will not detract from the authenticity of your relationship. You will still have the marriage certificate which proves that you did, in fact, tie the knot.

Scouse.
