Retirement Visas?

Featured Replies

I have been working in Thailand for most of 20 years and want to retire here. Now I understand the people that want to come to Thailand to retire need to have 800,000 baht in the bank. But I heard some time ago that if you have been working in the Kingdom for some time you only need 200,000 in the bank?

Any info on this would be great, thanks :o

You need 400k in the bank for a support Thai wife extension of stay so 200k for retirement does not sound very likely. But when you say "some time ago" perhaps you remember back a decade or so when the retirement requirements were much lower but starting age was 55-60 vice the 50 now. What you may be able to do with that 200k is obtain a multi entry O visa from Penang and only have to exit country every 90 days.

Do you have a source of retirement funds that could be used to supplement the 800k? If so you would not need the full amount in the bank.

that's the normal non-IMM "O" though, right?

The normal multi entry type yes. It would require 90 day border runs.

After 20 years working here I would hope the OP would have some pension and these could likely be used to reduce the 800k bank requirement.
