Converting Tourist Visa To Non Imm B

Featured Replies

Morning All,

A couple of questions regarding conversion of a Tourist visa to a Non Imm B:

1) Can the conversion still be done if the tourist visa is into a 30 day extension?

2) Once the conversion is done, does the expiry date of the Non Imm remain the same as the tourist visa, or does the period of the visa get extended/start again?

Is this one that nobody has come across before??........

Ah well looks like a visa run instead..........at least that way its a guaranteed 3 monther, and it will not be my first Non Imm B so no probs with the docs in Penang (hopefully) :D

I've only read about conversion of non-immigrant visas from one type to another. The following official site gives information about changing one's visa, but it is not clear from what visa category such change is meant to start:

Visa Change

You may want to give them a call to find out, before you decide on your visa run.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

All the info I have seen says can change from a tourist visa to a non Imm in country. I have no problem with that, but there appears to be no detail about when can change or how long the visa will last. Anybody got any clues?

If not, the visa run is the easiest option................Air Asia is good, done it b4, and the Thai consulate in Penang is quiet.............

Or alternatively KL..........busier, but have freinds there and can have a few days of R&R with them :o

As this is a service to change category so that you can obtain extension of stay do not believe they would be interested in extending if you do not meet extension of stay requirements (which from tone of inquiry seems to be the case). I do not believe it should be considered a method to obtain "more time" in country. But if you meet the requirements for extension of stay by all means use this path as provided by maestro in his link as it will only cost 2,000 baht and save a trip.

The conversion from tourist to non imm B is to enable application for a work permit............not just for an extension of time!!!!

:o:D

What I wanted to know was if I do the conversion, can it be done during the 30 day extension period of the tourist visa ( ie after the initial 60 days), and if it can how long will the visa then be valid for ( if its only to the end of the existing extension of time there seems little point in doing it!!!)

The reason for the question is a matter of timing - its dependent on a sponsor letter and other paperwork - if it arrives before I have to extend the tourist visa then ok,but if its into the 30 day extension of stay? - what then?

The last time we did this the extension was 90 days from the day the conversion was done.
