Hello,

This is my first post here. The site was highly reccomended to me.

Ok my question(s), My Thai partner and I were married last month in Bangkok and would like to set the ball rolling for a spouse visa for Aus.

We have all the paper work ready to go and are just waiting for time to go and get the marriage certified at the registry office.

I am confident that we will get the visa as we have everything required by the immi department and my wife speaks excellent English.

The only problem we may have is that my wife is also pregnant, 5 months pregnant.

No where on the paper work does it ask about this, is it something that needs to be declared by us?

The second part of the problem is, how long it will take to get the visa approved.

The baby is due in the start of January, and we would both much preffer the baby to be born in Aus.

So that gives us around 12-16 weeks for the visa approval. Is that possible?

If the baby has to be born here, will we then have to apply for a visa for the baby?

If so will the same charges apply?

Sorry this is a bit long winded.

Thankyou if you can help with my many questions.

Andrew.

Hi Rancid. The best thing for you to do is call the Australian mission (or office that deals with your application) in Bangkok and tell them of your situation. Marriage and having a baby on the way certainly justifies your committment to eachother and that's what they want you to prove. Sorry can't be much more help mate but sure someone else will give you a better answer.....best of luck anyway for you and the family. :o

If the baby is born in Thailand, it wil become an Australian citizen by decent, as well as automatically a Thai citizen. You'll have to register the birth at the embassy if you have it in Thailand and then at the same time apply for a passport, so no visas will be needed.
