assumed the local Thai mobile number is 081 1234 567, then following :

country code 66, then ELMINATE the first 0, and continue with 81 1234 567 ( 9 digits ).

+66 drop the first 0 of the Thai number and then just dial the rest of the number.

To be a little more clear don't enter the + (it's only used for VOIP carriers such as Skype and some mobile phone carriers) and enter the code for the international carrier you want to use (usually a 3 digit code).

Non mobile numbers outside of Bangkok only use a 9 digit number whereas mobile phone numbers and Bangkok phone numbers use a 10 digit number. In all cases drop the first zero of the number and enter 66

Assuming these numbers in Thailand:

012 345 6789 for Bankok or mobile phones

012 345 678 for non mobile numbers outside of Bangkok

you would enter:

XXX 66 12 345 6789 for Bangkok or mobile phones

XXX 66 12 345 678 for non mobile numbers outside of Bangkok

in each case replace the XXX with your international carrier code number

Note:

If the number after the zero is a 2, then it is a Bangkok number

If the number after the zero is an 8, then it is a mobile phone number.

Any other number after the zero indicates it is a non mobile number outside of Bangkok and there will be one less digit.

If you don't know your international carrier code you can always use 001, but it will be billed at the highest rate (unless you are on some kind of discounted international calling plan).

International carriers charge radically different rates, so it's best to use carrier code for the carrier that gives you the best discount. There are different carrier codes for different countries the call is originated from.

That's strange because entering +and the country number as a standard in my phonebook in front of every number has allowed me to call the requested number, national or international, in every country I have been to so far without the need to know the code for the international carrier in any particular country.

Not really... where is your phone book? In your mobile phone or on your computer? If you noticed, I said "it's only used by VOIP carriers such as Skype and some mobile phone carriers"

If you look at any standard non-mobile phone there are 12 keys (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,*,0, and #). There is no + key. I also said you can always use 001 if you don't know the international carrier code.

If you keep pressed the 0 for a few seconds a + sign will show. You can't use 001 in every country, you can in Thailand, but in my country it would need to be 00.I remember in Spain years ago it needed to be 009.The + sign works in every country of the world,as far as I'm concerned,as a replacement for the international dialing code.

Edit: just notice that you are talking about non mobile phone keyboards whil I'm talking about mobile phones. You sure landlines still exist?:whistling:

LOL Last I knew they do. Got one on here my desk and it's not a paperweight, although sometimes it doubles for a paperweight. In some places there are no mobile phones and in some other places they only have rotary dial phone (or pulse dial). No tone dialing. Hence they can only use the digits 0-9. I even know of some places in the US they only have crank telephones (an operator has to make the call). I ran into that problem when dealing with traveling salesmen who need to use portable data devices on the road and they couldn't connect modems up to the phone line. Never could come up with a solution while they were in the sticks. Finally the decision was made that they had to stay at a motel off a major highway that used a tone or pulse landline with a standard handset to which an acoustical modem could be attached.

The OP did not say if he/she was using a landline or mobile. That's why I posted more information. Also the + key may work for you all the time, but it may not work for others. Again it cannot be used by placing calls from landlines.

Well, I'm glad you finally woke-up and smelled the coffee. You might be right in that 001 doesn't work in every country. Come to think of it in Laos they use 007 or 008, but there is a code that will work for that country. A caller will have to see what carrier code provides the best and least expensive calls from where the call is originating from to Thailand.

By the way, by using the + key, you don't necessarily get the best calling rate. But it helps things simpler.

The caller may be able to do a Google search to determine an international carrier code or maybe there will be some suggestions in this thread.

That might even be what the OP was all about. It's not clear. All the other posts were assuming that it was because the OP was using the 0 at the beginning of the Thai number or didn't know the country code for Thailand.

WOW.. So much wasted time on this thread which should had one answer and then close it..

A Brit called vodka posted 19 words.. Hello sorry to ask stupid question, what are the codes to ring a thai mobile in thailand from england

Then comes all the bullocks (or bullshit if you are a American) about dropping a 0 or adding.. no do not add ... or what??

the simple answer would have been .. "Yeah, it is a stupid question.. try calling your local phone company"

If you're using a landline in the UK you need to dial 0066 plus the Thai phone number missing off the first zero - so 0066812345678 would call a mobile in Thailand with a number of 0812345678. If you're using a mobile you can use +66 instead of 0066. I'd suggest you'd be better off looking on niftylist.co.uk/calls which list a variety of cheap call providers but it seems to be temporarily unavailable. You can call Thailand at a penny a minute through www.justcall.co.uk dialling a UK number first then dialling your Thai number using 0066 as the country code.

I just checked on Wikipedia. It seems like the UK is now using a two digit access code 00 (previously was 010) as the international access code.

So based on previous post to call to a mobile phone in Thailand from a land line in the UK it would be

00 66 81 234 5678

To call the Thai mobile number 081 234 5678.

It's not clear about mobile phones.

If +66 81 234 5678 doesn't work, check with your mobile phone service provider.

To get discounted rates, the process looks more complicated depending on the provider and type of phone (landline or mobile). Different providers have different procedures.

Best to do a Google search for 'discount international calling rates from the UK'.
