The one thing I miss about the UK is Indian food, and although there are several Indian restaurants in BKK there is none (that I am aware of) in my area (Victory Monument).

So two questions:

1. Anyone know of an Indian restaurant in the Phaya Thai/Paholyothin corridor?

2. Anyone have an easy Chiken Tikka Massala recipe? (I tried to use a Fish Massala sauce from an Indian packet I bought in Villa and darn near burned my mouth off..didn't taste like Massala sauce at all..more like yellow curry :o ). Also anyone know where one could buy Sharwoods mango chutney in BKK (tried Villa, Foodland, etc)?

Thanks in advance for any advice..

Chicken Tikka Masala

Serves 4 (unless you eat double portions) :D

Preparation time 1-2 hours

Cooking time 10 to 30 mins

Ingredients

4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts, cubed

2.5cm/1in piece root ginger, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1 tsp chilli powder

salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander

juice of 1 lime

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, finely chopped

1 red chilli, seeded and finely chopped

1 tsp ground turmeric

300ml/10fl oz carton double cream

juice of ½ lemon

handful fresh coriander leaves, to garnish

pilau rice or table top naan, to serve

Method

1. Place the chicken in a large bowl and mix with the ginger, garlic, chilli, salt, pepper, coriander, lime juice and one tablespoon of the oil. Set aside for 2 hours.

2. preheat the grill to high. Thread the chicken on to skewers and cook under the grill for 12 minutes or so, turning frequently until well browned.

3. Meanwhile, heat the remaining oil in a large pan and cook the onion and chilli for 5-8 minutes until dark golden. Add the turmeric and cook for 30 seconds. Stir in the cream and cook gently for a couple of minutes.

4. Slide the chicken off the skewers and stir into the creamy sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes or so until the chicken is cooked through. Check the seasoning, adding some lemon juice to taste, and serve with rice or naan. Garnish with the coriander.

Enjoy!

Serving Size : 4 Preparation Time :0:30

Categories : Chicken Indian

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

-------- ------------ --------------------------------

1 1/2 pounds boned and skinned chicken breasts

2/3 cup plain lowfat yogurt

fresh ginger root -- grated; to taste

2 cloves garlic -- crushed

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon ground coriander seeds

salt -- to taste

2 tablespoons lime juice

2 tablespoons oil

lime slices -- for garnish

Rinse chicken, pat dry with paper towels and cut into 3/4" cubes. Thread

onto short skewers. Put skewered chicken into a shallow non-metal dish. In

a small bowl, mix together yogurt, gingerroot, garlic, chile powder,

coriander, salt, lime juice and oil. Pour over skewered chicken and turn to

Save all the hassle, get in a taxi and go to Suk soi 7/9 and eat it at Buccara. Best I've had outside India.

Sorry. I don't remember having Chicken Tikka Masala in India. Perhaps the best I've had in Thailand, then. The Indian restaurants in Malaysia are bloody good also.

I don't think Chicken Tikka Masala exists in India. Isn't that the dish that comes from Scotland?

Edit.

I have two recipes

1) Get in a taxi and go to one of the reputable eateries, followed by a few jars after and a taxi home.

2) Call one of the delivery services like food by phone and get it delivered to your door.

Dear all

Thanks for the advice, especially Bull - think the Yogurt sauce is the one I'm looking for. As mentioned, don't want to go all the way to Suk for this..-cheers..

###### Right! I was there two weeks ago and lived off the stuff. It is good and cheap, my only complaint is that they kept on giving me the non-spicy stuff.

There was a place by my hotel that sold nan with dall for 2.5 ringitt/25 baht.

I like Massuman/Muslim curry here, especially with the Roti. I find that the Muslims fry the roti too much though but they do give you an egg with it which is great in the mornings.

Sounds funny but I think it is true.

I didn't see any in India.

In Bangkok I get a good meal at a Malaysian place on Sukh soi 8, first on the left in a little soi.

Yes, and some sad news , the inventor of Chicken Tikka Masala has passed away

Glaswegian who 'invented' chicken tikka masala dies

A Glaswegian chef credited with inventing the chicken tikka masala has died, aged 77.

Ali Ahmed Aslam is said to have come up with the dish in the 1970s when a customer asked if there was a way of making his chicken tikka less dry.

His solution was to add a creamy tomato sauce, in some versions of the story a can of tomato soup.
