will be taking my girlfriend on holiday to uk. i know the uk are quite strict on food items brought into the country, and rightly so, - can i bring into the uk a thai hot spicey sauce - one bought from big c, in a proper plastic bottle

It depends on what's in the sauce i guess?

Normally there would be not much of a problem, but if you have to fill in any forms about what you're carrying just fill you have food with you.

Better get it taking away from you then get a fine because not filling in the form correctly.

You should have no problems with a commercially prepared and still-sealed bottle or two. If you're worried go through Red and declare it, the worst that can happen is they'll take it off you.

Most Thai ingredients are available from specialist outlets anyway, just a bind going there or doing mail-order.

thanks for replies. we will bring 1 or 2 in then, to the uk, and go through the red channel. better than a fine

Just wrap it and pack it in your suitcase.

I have taken all sorts of nam jim back to the UK but put in your suitcase.

i might have done that, but when i went back to the UK in February i was stopped by customs, and they went through everything, so i dont want to take any chances - especially as my gf is on her 1st UK visit (visa)

Don't worry, it is not illegal as far as I am aware. You should see what I take from UK to Thailand.

Best advice - take plenty of Mama noodles - your G/F will need her fix and a box of those will keep her going.

Where are you going in the UK ?
