Seem to remember a while back, about a regulation in the UK that did not allow you to export an earth to outbuilding of more than 5 meters away. Cannot seem to find the thread,?? anyone?

Hi Forky.

There's no absolute regulation regarding exporting a ground (except in the case of boats and caravans), however there are rules regarding extraneous conductive parts which make it unwise to export a TNC-S (MEN) ground to an outbuilding, there are particular hazards associated with metal framed units (Portakabins).

You may like to have a look in the IET Regulations forum here http://www.theiet.org/forums/forum/categories.cfm?catid=205 particularly this thread http://www.theiet.org/forums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=205&threadid=40496&enterthread=y and this thread http://www.theiet.org/forums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=205&threadid=39422 could be of interest

Try an IET forum search on 'export'.

NOTE We don't normally allow links to other forums, the IET (formerly the IEE) is a globally respected professional organisation, in this instance I'm bending the rules slightly, anyone has a problem please contact support[at]thaivisa.com

Under AS3000 one can run an earthing conductor to a switchboard in an outbuilding, the MEN is at the main switchboard.( 1 earth electrode)

Alternatively one can MEN each switch board. This is often used on farms etc where there are aerial submains to other buildings. (1 earth electrode for each switchboard).
