Is there anywhere in Pattaya that organize visa trips to Penang. My ‘o’ visa need renewing for the first time. I have never been to Penang and would like some help organizing it. I know there are many organizations offering Cambodia visa runs in Pattays, but have never noticed them doing Penang trips.

Thanks.

The man wants to go to Penang from Pattaya to renew an O type visa, why would he want to travel hundreds of kms's more to Mukdahan to renew a B type visa???

As said you do not need anyone to do this trip to Penang for you as it is easy and a lot of information is available in the forum and if you want a play by play that can also be provided. Just advise what you want to pay for hotel and mode of transport and people can help you. The city of Georgetown is easy to find your way around.

You do have a Thai wife and want a multi entry?

As stated , if you qualify for a non imm o multi, it is very easy to do it yourself. There are agents in Pattaya that do organised trips at a cost of around 15000 baht where as you can do it yourself for less than 10000 baht with very little effort.

I'll give you the details of the Penang trip (I'll take it as read that you can get yourself from Pattaya to BKK!) as its dead easy to do yourself.

From BKK take the International Express train (Number 35 which departs Hualamphong daily at 1445) to Butterworth and there you are pretty much.

From Butterworth Train Station ingnore any offers of a taxi and follow the signs to the Ferry (Feri) or just follow the crowds as most people head to the Ferry. Its 2 minutes walk from the station to the ferry.

Make sure you book your train ticket a few days in advance as it can get busy, and if you're a bad sleeper on trains and a big bloke like me only a lower berth will do. You should be able to get a ticket from Pattaya station for the Butterworth train or there will be a travel agency there which will be able to get you a ticket for a commission.

Once in Penang, there are plenty of decent agency who will help you with your visa business. The best one in my opinion is the agency/money changers/bookstore to the right as you face the Swiss Hotel on Lebuh Chulia.

Its a great shame to me in one way that the great Penang visa runs of the past seem to have been consigned to history. I had some memorable trips and met some real characters on some of the arranged Penang runs. I remember how the drinking would start leaving Pattaya early morning, stopping in BKK for a few lunchtime drinks before heading (sometimes in a bit of a panic) through the BKK traffic to get the train.......ah the memories.......

Penang can take up to 4 days (depending on what kind of transportation you use). Laos takes ONE DAY (and two nights)...plus it is cheaper (even with the Lao visa).

Mukdahan is btw closer than Penang via land!!

The instructions are the same for a Non Imm O as a Non Imm B...the documentation needed is just different.
