Much as I like Thai food I still get the urge to cook some farrang stodge once in a while and I recenntly got a craving for beef stew with dumplings, so I need self raising flour or baking powder and suet....anybody know where I can buy in Pattaya or nearby?

I bought some ages ago , I think it was from friendship supermarkup

I remember a friend of mine buying some a few weeks back, it was either friendship or foodland. Said it was expensive though.

I have looked in both Friendship and Foodland but without success, however there is no logic in where they place some goods so maybe it'll turn up somewhere obscure - like the sweet counter (suet/sweet???)

could also be labelled as shortening.

Usually--if you are looking for some hard-to-get ingrediant and want to cook at home..........stop into a western-owned restaurant and ask the western owner for help. More likely than not, he will ask his suppliers about this and get what you need--and --NO CHARGE to you.

I do this many times in my restaurant...I am always happy to help anyone who needs any special ingrediant (or hard to find one) for his/her home cooking.

Great! Atora is what I was hoping to find...I'll check it out tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip about kidneys...I have bought before but know they can be hard to get hold of...

and the tip about restaurants...I actually did that to get some yoghurt from an Indian restaurant recently as yet again I find it very hard to find plain yoghurt without added sugar here. I hope to culture my own next time.

Fortunetly/unfortunetly many of the thais that work in these supermarkets have no idea what they are stacking the shelves with.Hence,it can take literaly weeks to find that illusive item that you know they have.
