A 500GB drive is rated before low level formatting. The headers and trailers of the data sectors take up a fair amount of overhead. So you're getting more bytes than on the label, it's just some of them are used by the system.

But when I checked it at home, the disk inside was Western Digital.......... :bah:

Buffalo don't make hard drives - they make the cases that the hard drives are wrapped up in.

But surely not as cheated as you'd have felt opening it up and finding two nuts and a usb stick in it... :lol:
