Odd, Lyngsat doesn't list Sky News as part of Astro. What transponder frequency is that on?

Astro is Malaysian Satellite TV. You can see their program list at their website. The required dish size would depend on where you are in Thailand but it is scrambled and you can not legally watch it in Thailand. For this reason we can not discuss any details of how to get it on this forum.

Why is it illegal to watch in Thailand. I thought the idea of satellite TV was to give more people access to the real truth. When the coup against Taksin took all BBC and CNN of the Thai TV satellite, I was still able to access by my dish for Australian TV and passed on information to family and friends. If it was not for satellite TV, the people of such oppressed countries as Burma would not have access to the real news.

Due to copyright issues most satellite distributors are restricted to limit their signal to a certain region, usually a country. You're not allowed to watch True in Malaysia either.

It is channel 514 in SD and Channel 700 in HD

11102-V-30000

Oh Jolly good! :)

Hopefully a good addition to the lineup of news channels!

Comes in on 514 for me, but not 700 in HD! hmmm ?

It must be a very recent addition to the channel line up on Astro...

Its certainly NOT illegal to watch Astro in Thailand, anymore than its not illegal to watch Sky in Spain ( by simply carrying your Skybox there!)

However. It is not legal to actually purchase Astro in Thailand due to the copyright issues you mention, but there is no illegality in actual viewing.Theres a big difference!

I don't know the finer points, I'm not a lawyer, but if you call Astro in Malaysia and ask them to subscribe they will tell you you can't do that for legal reasons.

Obviously any sort of card sharing or hacking of codes is also illegal.

The rest is splitting hairs.

How do you see channel numbers on a DM600 (DM500) ?

If I go to "all services" I don't see either channels 514 or 700 nor Sky News.

I already went to manual transponder scan, 11102-V-30000, but it didn't find any new channels.

Checked the guy for Astro he wanted 29,000 plus yearly fee I said holy cow. he has same set up for Vietnamese satellite it has Hbo and Bbc Sport and all the rest for 13,000 the picture was same on his tv so this might be the route to go.

HD does not replace good journalism and program variety. Basically I am only interested in live sport in this part of the world. Locsl programs plus Sky, Fox etc. are crappy programs. On top I don't need a golf channel, Australian football, rugby and cricket. Give me instead all major European football games live plus some decent European news channels. Still haven't find what I'm looking for.

Astro is not legal to view in Th, plus it is rather costly.

29,000 for the hardware + setup sounds VERY expensive to me. I'd try to ask around locally, I'm sure you'll find installers who can do it for you for a lot less than that. Or you could try sending a PM to our sponsor JSAT.

My post re Astro has been deleted, so I'll only point out that Truevisions is ideal for your footie orientated tastes, so whats the problem?

That sounds much higher than I paid, ... that should include the year's subscription... I had a quote from another company which was higher... when I did this last July. but still not that high...

I cannot remember the exact details of all the costs. I just remember working it out over three years, to justify the initial outlay.

700 Sky HD channel now coming in, must have been a bit slower coming in on the boat!:)

I can assure you It is there - ask your set top box provider to sort it for you or look at our wiki on how to add it.

Sorry, I found it (at channel 215 for some reason). I don't have a set top box provider, I set it all up myself :)

I just asked my regular guy and he quoted 13,000 - 16,500 (receiver, dish and installation) depending on dish size. The smaller (cheaper) dish will work but the larger one keeps the signal longer time during rain etc. PM me if you want more details.

What package are you getting for that price?

I have been looking at the Astro site www.astro.com.my

and it is not very friendly when it comes to getting a price

as an indication.

The only price I found was RM38 (B380) a month for a very basic package.

HD receivers and PVR options will cost more.

Obviously Thai installers will apply a markup.

You don't get any packages, this is just the price for the necessary hardware to receive it. In addition to this you would need a subscription to be able to view the encrypted signal. As has been discussed before Astro can not legally sell this to you in Thailand.

"Transmissions Ends - Thank you for watching".

Seems Sky News was just broadcast for the wedding, it's gone off the air now.

Pity. I much prefer Sky News over the alternatives, incl. BBC.

Yes, poof !!!!! it was gone as soon as the wedding was done... great to see it on HD though....

I still think hard to beat Aljazeera for most detailed general news coverage and more back ground stories to some of the news! ....I find BBC repeats it's self too much....

Astro must have been paying for the privilege of using the SKY signal.

I wonder why when there was pretty full coverage on BBC.

PS I agree about the Aljazeera news!
