DonaldBattles Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 In the past month there have been dramatic price increases in quality beef and pork from the big suppliers in the central provinces. Much of this is attributed to the increase in the price of world oil. Pork suppliers have been known to create their own emergency to hold pork off the market and increase the prices. The last price increases were really big and not justifed to the current level. In the case of pork spare ribs they increased the price 17 Baht per kg and ground pork 10 Baht/kg. Beef prices had remained stable for a long time and were justified. Our supplier increased prices from 7-20 Baht per kg. Naturally the primal cuts such as rib eye, strip loin and tenderloin were hit with the largest increases. Illegal imports of pigs and beef cattle continue to put pressure on the growers. Beef Pro the largest grower and processor of prime beef cattle in Thailand with a privately owned herd of over 4000 heads continues to be the main viable choice for distributors for quality beef products. As long as the middle east remains unstable and the dollar continues to fall look for more price increases in the future.
Paul888 Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 Did you press enter too soon Don? Surely that post was missing a final paragraph containing either "that is why we have had to increase our prices" OR "despite this, we have not increased our prices"
