Expats Ladies Lunch

Featured Replies

May's "Informal" Expats Ladies Lunch

Date: Thursday, May 19

Place: The lunch buffet at the Grandview Hotel, on the Superhighway, about 500 meters north of Huey Kaew Rd. The Superhighway is the road that becomes Nimmanheiman once it crosses Huey Kaew.

Time: plan to arrive at 11:45 to miss the noon rush at the buffet line. Later arrival is fine, but we'll start without you!

Cost: 160 baht. Cost includes water, coffee and tea and a modest tip.

For reservations contact [email protected]

Can my Thai wife come along or is it limited to expt''s only :)

Hi Buzzer! I didn't realize Hubby was still logged onto Thai Visa forum when I posted about the Expats Ladies Lunch.

First, as the name would indicate, the lunch is for men. Grandview has a big restaurant and sometimes one of our hubbies somehow manages to show up for lunch at the same time we do. The men always sit in another part of the restaurant, so as to keep the table all women.

Some of the women who come are Thai ladies. Sometimes they are a daughter-in-law of an expat lady; sometimes they are Thai ladies who have lived in the west for so long that they feel more comfortable around western women than they do Thai women. Most of us are age 50 and above and most of our conversation centers around where can you buy this, what a great dress -- who is your dressmaker, have you shopped at the newly remodeled Tops at KSK and my dog has been really sick and I had quite an adventure at the vet's office. It's pretty light conversation. We don't drink alcohol during the lunches, so we don't become really profound! But, we can be very welcoming and helpful, especially for newcomers to Chiang Mai.
