Engine Acting Up. Bad Fuel Or Some Other Fuel Problem?

Featured Replies

I was out of town for a few weeks, and when I got back the car was almost empty of fuel, so I put in whatever petrol my gardener uses for the lawn mower. I then went to the local station ( lemon green or whatever it's called) and added gasohol 95 ( I switch between this and v power 95 for my 2jzgte engine).

Since then, the engine has alternated between running normally, then upon a restart running really rich and burning a lot of extra fuel, so much so that when I mash down on the accelerator, the engine starts bogging and I have to let off to get any acceleration.

Is this probably due to bad fuel, clogged fuel filter, injectors going bad, or something else?

Perhaps a faulty MAP sensor or O2 sensor, that is telling your computer to adjust the fuel mixture according to the corrupted data from the bad sensor. Your dealer can tell you about these by plugging in to diagnostic computer.

Yeah !! your right take it to Toyota and putting gasohol in unless it has been converted to take it, probably has started causing the problem.

Thanks. Been on gasohol for a number of months with no problems up until the long break and new fuel. Will get it looked at tomorrow.

Would start by removing one sparkplug. If its black glazed from melted plastic/rubber, there is a gasohol issue

Your engine should be able to handle gasohol E10, but parts in your fueltank and fuel line may be damaged. Have you tryed to leave filler cap in gasohol E20 overnight to see if gasket survives?

Gasohol can separate during storage, providing very high ethanol content to fuel line.

Yeah exactly.... Like Kwasaki eluded to sitting with gasohol potentially a big problem, but still I always find these statements entertaining and devoid of any logic whatsoever, bascially it says I never had a problem UNTIL I had a problem... Kinda like my tire had air until it developed a leak  ..
