I am running a ASUS K42J bought in Aust in Jan of this year, The internal speakers output very low volume, when I plug a mobile phone ear plugs and mic in to the single jack, I hear loud through that.

I have every known to me speaker volume to me set to max. In some of the test, I can hear the 2 speakers working with the left and right test, I need to put my head on the keyboard to hear them though, not to comphy and not a pretty site !! Even things like many youtube, and any video application all set to max volume.

I had a 'computer doctor' form Australia do a remote assistance session trying to get the setting right. He reckons I have a faulty machine, for what that is worth.

It is almnost like there is a layer of thick plastic over the speakers !!!!

Do ASUS offer remote assistance to sort it out does anyone know?

Any ideas?

Yeah, I am not in Bangkok, but if I have to, I will do a overnight trip there if I have to. A review on the net is below. I can not believe that ASUS would sell a notebook that is much quieter than a 700b Nokia phone !!!!

Sammycic, I will let you know how I go with this issue, may help you as well.

http://support.asus....us#asia-pacific I have the Rama 4 address in this link. Does anyone know if they will look at it on the spot or do you have to leave it with them for a week? Basically asking what is ASUS warranty like in Thailand?

The K42J's speakers are nothing to write home about. When we tried listening to both a rock tune, "My Delirium" by Ladyhawke, and a jazz standard, "Morning Dance" by Spyro Gyra, the sound wasn't tinny, but it fell completely flat; all the instruments and vocals seemed to blend together, sounding very much like a mono clock radio. Even at maximum volume, the output wasn't loud enough.

In one review that had many other neg points, so maybe there is still hope !!!-good set of speakers in it (they get pretty loud and still maintain clear sound )

Looks like a trip to Asus, maybe they did install whisper speakers. If so, it is almost an Amazing Thailand moment !!!!

You need to choose between MIC (then use the low power speakers) or Headphone (then use omni-directional embedded MIC "which captures everything around you"). I contacted customer support and the guy told me I could but those headset (mic+headphone) that has only one plug (like the iPhone ones). Guess what!? It doesn't work. Now my only option is a U$B headset. whistling.gif

hey, my speakers are crap too. just get yourself some mini-x's!!

you may also want to look at the adjustments in the Realtek audio as well as volume in windows and the app you are using. I can really power up the sound, but it doesn't sound very good.

If you are located in Pattaya, there is an Asus service center called Synnex. It's located behind Carrefour. Staff there are pretty helpful.
