Yingluck won't be PM if Pheu Thai wins: Newin

By The Nation

Pheu Thai candidate Yingluck Shinawatra will not be able to secure the position of prime minister even if her party wins the polls, Bhum Jai Thai's faction leader Newin Chidchob said on Wednesday.

"Despite Pheu Thai victory, Yingluck could not overcome the sentiment," he said, insisting Yingluck is a decoy for leverage to form the coalition alliance.

Newin said Yingluck would face social divisions just like what happened to former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, hinting at the opposition for those close to Thaksin to rise to power.

Yingluck is a sister of ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra while Somchai is Thaksin's brother-in-law.

The Democrat and the Pheu Thai parties are in a tight race to lead the next government, Newin said.

Based on opinion survey results, Pheu Thai has a slight lead but more than 50 per cent of voters are undecided, he said, adding the two rival parties are competing for the swing votes.

He said he believed Abhisit Vejjajiva would step down as the Democrat leader if losing the vote.

Its amazing that Thaksin can pull the punches.

Seeing he is in Exile in Dubai.

Its it allowed in the Thai Politics? :o

If 'you' are a red shirt or PT fan 'you' will only complain about Newin, not Thaksins obvious involvement despite being banned too...

You know, they are against double-standard by always practicing it. Or something...

Cryptic clue from Newin so when it comes to negotiating he has us primed on why he made his decision on whom to partner with. He might insist she forfeit the PM seat to get him on board. Same goes for his veiled comments about Abhisit. This man knows all the cards will be in his hands, he will just need to explain to the public.

Some red shirts here?

Newin was fair game for many till December 2008. Only since then its double-standard. :whistling:

And I think all the complains are not only about the status 'Banned'.

JULY 3 ELECTION

Abhisit or Yingluck won't be PM : Newin

By WATTHANA KHAMCHOO

THE NATION

Veteran politician Newin Chidchob predicted yesterday that neither Abhisit Vejjajiva nor Yingluck Shinawatra would become the next prime minister.

Instead, he said, he expected Yingluck's Pheu Thai Party to win the July 3 general election, though it would need to form a coalition government because it will not have a large enough number of seats in the House of Representatives.

He also predicted that Abhisit would resign as Democrat Party leader if he failed to lead it to an election victory. This precedent was set by former Democrat leader Banyat Bantadtan, who stepped down after the party lost the 2005 general election, Newin noted.

"Given his political etiquette, I don't think Abhisit will remain as leader if his party loses the election," Newin said.

He described Yingluck - Pheu Thai's top candidate - as a decoy being used by her brother Thaksin Shinawatra to woo votes and form the next coalition alliance.

"With Pheu Thai winning no more than 250 House seats [half of the House of Representatives], Thaksin is unlikely to make Yingluck the prime minister. I don't think he will resist public sentiment," Newin explained.

Most of the country wants to see peace restored and about half of the eligible voters are still undecided, he said, citing results of a recent public opinion survey.

He added that he did not think Thaksin wanted to "challenge society" by pushing Yingluck to become the next prime minister, because otherwise the political conflict would only worsen.

"He wants to cut down confrontations in certain parts of society. To do this, he will just replace [Yingluck] with another person," he said, adding that Thaksin appeared to have learned a lesson from when he put his brother-in-law Somchai Wongsawat in the prime minister's seat. Somchai's short-lived government was strongly opposed by the yellow shirts.

"My prediction is that she will win [the election] but will not become prime minister," he reiterated.

Newin - considered de facto leader of the coalition Bhum Jai Thai Party - was once a close aide to Thaksin. He was stripped of his electoral rights for five years after their Thai Rak Thai party was dissolved by the court in 2007, and a political ban was imposed against its 111 executives. The veteran politician was speaking at a press luncheon he hosted at the Bhum Jai Thai headquarters yesterday.

At the luncheon, Newin predicted that Pheu Thai would win no more than 200 House seats, the Democrat Party no more than 160 and Bhum Jai Thai about 111 seats.

Bhum Jai Thai - which has entered an alliance with the smaller Chart Thai Pattana Party - is seen as a third force that could become a deciding factor as to whether Pheu Thai or Democrats form the next coalition government.

Meanwhile, Abhisit said yesterday that he was not worried about surveys showing Pheu Thai as the leading party because about half of the eligible voters were still undecided. He said different polls showed different results, with the Democrats leading in some and Pheu Thai in other.

He added that he was not convinced by Pheu Thai's claim that it could win as many as 270 of the 500 House seats.

He explained it already.

  1. Newin predicted that Pheu Thai would win no more than 200 House seats, the Democrat Party no more than 160 and Bhum Jai Thai about 111 seats.
  2. Given his political etiquette, I don't think Abhisit will remain as leader if his party loses the election,

  4. (Thaksin) wants to cut down confrontations in certain parts of society. To do this, he will just replace [Yingluck] with another person,

Means:

  1. BJT is strong. Look at me.
  2. Sorry "Boss"(#2), you are a loser. etiquette? Mwhahaha. Look at me.
  3. Congratulations, you need a coalition partner. Look at me.
  4. Sorry for your Sis, Boss (#1), but that is how we explain it to the public. You avoid confrontation, the cleverer give in. And believe it or not, even I have a face to lose. Give me someone who is a Non-Shinawatra and we will call this national reconciliation.

Yingluck on track to become PM: Noppadon

By The Nation

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has not wavered in endorsing his sister and Pheu Thai candidate Yingluck Shinawatra for the position of prime minister, legal adviser Noppadon Patama said on Thursday.

Noppadon was reacting to remarks by Bhum Jai Thai's Newin Chidchob who said Yingluck was a Thaksin's decoy instead of being a real candidate for the job.

"Newin has never said anything good for Pheu Thai and Yingluck is definitely a prime ministerial candidate," he said.

He said he could confirm Thaksin would not choose a replacement for Yingluck and that Thaksin had no plans to travel to Cambodia or any countries located near Thailand during the campaigning.

Meanwhile Yingluck started her campaigning in Khon Kaen after Wednesday's rally in Udon Thani.

Speaking at the sidelines of campaigning, she said voters would decide on her fate and that she was prepared to accept the voting outcome.

There's a finger on the dial,

The lucky wheel goes round,

Little joker knows he can't escape.

The same time every year,

The fun fair's back in town,

Numbers in the air like ticker tape...................

If those were the results, there is no 'winner' and victory would go to which ever group BJT sided with. They could decide who is the next PM.

Newin has already decided who will be not the next PM and to which group the victory goes.

Bhum Jai Thai Points out Both Abhisit and Yingluck Won't Be Premier

Bhum Jai Thai strongman Newin Chidchob has predicted that neither Abhisit Vejjajiva nor Yingluck Shinawatra will take the premier seat.

Bhum Jai Thai Party key figure Newin Chidchob believes that neither Yingluck Shinawatra nor Abhisit Vejjajiva will end up taking the premier position, as neither of these two are able to end the long-standing political turmoil.

Newin explained that the scenario that neither of them take the premiership is a better way of tackling the political polarization.

The premier, as Newin sees it, should be a middleman like Somchai Wongsawat.

What's more, he believes the former prime minister in self-exile will not actually allow his sister to become premier.

Newin believes that the majority of voters do not want Yingluck to be the next PM, even if the Pheu Thai Party wins the poll.

Newin also expects that the Pheu Thai Party will not win 250 seats in the House, and that if the Democrat Party loses the race, Abhisit will quit the party leadership position.

Newin noted that all of his political comments were based on the best interest of the general public.

Meanwhile, Pheu Thai key figure, Yingluck played down Newin's statement, saying voters will decide who will become the next premier on July 3. She said all sides should accept the election poll results.

In response to Newin's remark, important Pheu Thai member and red-shirt leader Nattawut Saikeua threatened to stage a mass rally if Pheu Thai fails to lead the next government.

He went on to say that even if the Democrat Party wins the poll, many groups will call on Abhisit to resign as he is no longer competent to run the country.

Natthawut speculated that either Democrat adviser Chuan Leekpai or Rak Santi Party leader Purachai Piamsombun may take the seat instead.

You've just now realized this? I think this was obvious from the start. Newin has always been the decider in this little game. He is just now becoming confident enough to voice his opinion. Although 111 seats for himself is over the top.

He will likely get around 40 - 50, but that is still more than enough to sway the election. Interesting that he does seem to be indicating that a PT alliance is not out of the question, so long as Thaksin is properly neutered. Could actually be an interesting coalition for a while.

My prediction is that is what will happen. We will see a PT/BJT coalition government for about 1 year. After that, Thaksin's ego will get the better of him, and the government will fall apart. There is no way Thaksin will ever accept that it won't be about him. But I think a short period of a PT led coalition could be great fodder for the Democrats next time around.

Interesting that throughout this current coalition it was Abhisit holding the greed of Newin in check. And in this scenario it would be Newin holding the malevolence of Thaksin in check. Complete role reversal, although I suspect Newin will finally get his bus leasing deal. I also think Abhisit will be gone, and that MR Sukhumband will be the premier in 2 years. Remember you heard it here first.

So, there you have it. Peau Thai and the red shirts will only accept one result, and will be out protesting again if they don't get their way.

Yay for Red Democracy.

This is actually the only problem with the PT/BJT scenario. Newin will say "sure we can have a coalition, but no amnesty for Thaksin and I get a good chunk of the spoils." Well, while this might be a good solution for the country, it does nothing for the only person Thaksin cares about, and so he will decide that he will again paralyze the country rather than reach a peaceful settlement that is staring him in the face.

"Red democracy" is better spelled t-y-r-a-n-n-y

Pheu Thai to Newin: Stop imagining. Abhisit to Newin: Go back to football. /via@tulsathit

They say Abhisit doesn't write his own Tweets.

Will cause a good laugh at the Buriram FC. Newin won already. And I don't mean in football. (only a 50%+ PT victory could prevent this.)

It wasn't a tweet. Abhisit said it to some journalists. Just saw it on TV.

Still strange that he tells Newin to go back to football.

With k. Newin still banned from politics I'd call that a valuable suggestion. Also leaves two of the 'beautiful' people running at these elections ;)

I think that would be even stranger if Abhisit would remind Newin that he is banned form politics.

True, true, that would be just as strange as Ms. Yingluck reminding her big brother k. Thaksin to stay out of politics and let her handle things ;)

What is true?

Does she? No.

Nobody reminds here someone else that they should stay out of politics, because they are banned. Yingluck does not. Abhisit does not. for obvious reasons. they are not stupid.

The only ones who do it, in Thai politics, boycott the election and wear shirts of a certain colour.

And some member of the expat family community do it, but they deny the shirt habit. :whistling:
