The Tipping Westerner Likes To Stay In His Comfort Zone

The cancer of tipping is indeed spreading. In all my time in Japan short term and long term since 1980's I have never seen a Japanese accept a tip. Until recently at a business class lounge at Narita airport an American colleague handed one of the older Japanese ladies who do service there all his change. I was shocked and the lady asked "why?" In English. He said " American custom". She pocketed it turned around and said in Japanese to another server "what a nice custom!"
