I copped that a couple of days ago. It started downloading itself before I hastily deleted it.

These are the most common attacks nowadays. Social engineering (trick the user into installing the malware himself so as to bypass system protections).

Macs just got 2 like these. Apple's patch for the first one was circumvented within hours by the makers of the malware.
