Ex-Red Shirt guard’s home attacked in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI, June 13 – A gunman on Monday shot at the house of ex-Rak Chiang Mai ‘Love Chiang Mai 51’ security guard Niyom Lueangcharoen, 51, but the former Red Shirt faction member was unscathed.

Also known as disc jockey Lae, Mr Niyom was unhurt as he spotted the attacker first and escaped when an unknown gunman fire on his home in Sankampaeng distirct.

The glass-fronted structure, which is a display and sells centre for handicrafts in his house’s compound, was damaged with multiple bullet holes.

He believed that the shooting was the work of people is in former faction who feared he would give information to the police.

A Chiang Mai Court in April sentenced five men, including Mr Niyom, to 20 years in jail for the murder of the father of a key member of the Yellow Shirt People's Alliance for Democracy.

Mr Niyom had jumped bail, and disappeared, but apparently changed his mind and reported to the authorities on Thursday, and was allowed to return home.

After reporting the incident to police Mr Niyom said that he had been followed by an unknown man.

The “Love Chiang Mai 51” supports Chiang Mai-born ex-prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The city is a major stronghold for the opposition Pheu Thai Party, under whose banner Mr Thaksin's youngest sister Yingluck is running for the premiership. (MCOT online news)

It's just so hard to find this chain of events surprising any more.

Thailand should have several sets of numbers for lawbreakers.

1) those incarcerated

2) those absconded, or hiding

3) The "never mind, they are on special release" ones.

4) those whose position is perceived as putting them above the law.

Ex-security guard of a pro-red group in Chiang Mai today survived an attack in which a gunman shot at an abandoned factory where he lived.

Niyom Luengangcharoen, 51, or DJ Lae, core member of "Love Chiang Mai 51" was unscathed from the attack.

Niyom said he spotted the attacker first and escaped when an unknown gunman fired on his home in Chiang Mai's Sankampaeng distirct.

If this is the guy I'm thinking of, he was 'married' (not sure if officially) to a Shinawatra relative until some alleged shenanigans involving red-shirt funds and a young lady.

Convicted of murder, jumped bail, reported to police, and then let go to return home?

Hey, cut the guy some slack, he "reported". Some fugitives never report themselves.
