champken Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 This thread is of interest to me, i also drive a high mileage 180000km Nissan NV and have thought its about time to change the oil and filter and am not sure what would be the most suitable oil to use in this hot climate, so any recommendations from some of you knowledgeable guys would be greatly appreciated
sunnyhor Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 I had only basic knowledge. First of all why I ask for recommendations is that all the while I am using 5w30. But the FC dropping and the oil is a little too thin for me. Your situation, you have to know what you use all the while? Is it fully synthetic? Is there any hiccups nowadays? How many km normally you sent for servicing? Among these there are many many facts that we would not know, only those pro mechanic can really advice. If you think your ride is okay, stick to the one you used every time. I am asking for advice because I felt that 5W30 no longer suits my wheel, it's becoming sluggish......so I chose a thicker one that suits my wheel. My 2 cents, any experts inputs will be appreciate! sunnyhor Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 But will 50 oil too thick and make the vehicle sluggish? And the FC drop? viscosity part 5W in an environment where temperatures never drop below +10ºC = Well my Mobil 1 5W - 50 oil that I am using has got me all set for climate change.
transam Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Remember if with a high mileage ride that has been run on mineral oil it will have crap build up and so if you then use synthetic it will clean all the crap, sometimes not good. If you go synthetic change the filter after 1000 km then 5000km. Carry on with what is recommended for temperatures here unless you are burning oil, if you are then you can go 50.
sunnyhor Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 So is it recommendable to stick to 5W40 for my wheel? 100000 miles done. Kwasaki Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 But will 50 oil too thick and make the vehicle sluggish? And the FC drop? Well Mobil 1 supersyn oil is 5W - 50 not 50W and works within the temperature ranges to be honest most oils are good, the one I gave you to use could be as good as some cheaper oils, a 10W - 40 oil will be fine for Thailand and GTX is designed for high mileage vehicle as it says allegedly if you read it. Just change it and filter at 10,000 KM or 6 months and you will be fine.
sunnyhor Posted June 13, 2011 Author Posted June 13, 2011 Thanks bro!!! Noted. Changing oil filter every time I service my car, oil filter don't cost me a bomb, so can change it easily! champken Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 In my case i haven't got a clue what was put in it before, the car is 12 years old, i have owned it for about a year in which time ive probably only done about 3000km, judging by what you guys are saying i will probably go down to Tesco and buy some of that Performa 5w40 (might look for a semi synthetic) and put that in it along with a new filter, and i will also take on board what Transam said and change the filter again after 1000km
