I took this photo in the US on my Canon a few years ago and liked it quite a bit but haven't had as much success with flowers since then. But then I've been photographing in Thailand and the light is much stronger, is there some way to duplicate this rich color without it getting washed out?

Do your photographing of strong contrasts on dull days... unless you actually want the harsh lighting. There is also a graduated grey filter that can be placed over the subject to balance the sharp contrasts.

just a few of the wifes masterpieces..seem to have millions but my filing system for photos has a lot to be desired....should print and collage 'em sometime I suppose...

can't help but love flowers eh ...better in the "flesh" though

You can hand hold a diffuser between the subject and the sun to soften the light or perhaps a reflector to bounce some light into the shadow area.

Not exactly what I had in mind but it will help.

Your camera has a commander function that can trigger an off camera flash.

Buy a Nikon flash, umbrella and light stand and light your subject from different angles.
