Tourist Service Center opened at Suvarnabhumi Airport

BANGKOK, 20 August 2011 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has officially launched the Tourist Service Center at Suvarnabhumi Airport with a target to increase the number of foreign visitors to 30 million in the next five years.

Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports Sombat Kuruphan presided over the opening ceremony of the Tourist Service Center at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. He stated that the center would be mainly responsible for providing foreign tourists with assistance, receiving complaints and building confidence among visitors.

Services are available in ten different languages, consisting of Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Russian, English, Italian, French, Spanish, German and Thai. The center is located at Gate 3 on the first floor of the Passenger Terminal and operates 24 hours a day.

According to Mr Sombat, there are currently 14.5-16 million foreign travelers coming to Thailand every year, generating 700-900 billion THB for the country. With the expansion of the global tourism industry and the Government’s stimulus measures, he said Thailand could see as many as 30 million foreign tourists by the year 2016 while earning as much as 2 trillion THB.

Once again... as always and has been said in thousands of forums posts, introduce a more efficient Immigration service in both incoming and outgoing tourists and Thailand may get more returning / regular tourists. The Immigration Department is still abysmal!!!

Why is it abysmal? I only usually queue up for around a minute, and if you have a years visa then you can just go to the thai passport desks if they are free. smile.gif

How will the provision of another complaints desk increase tourist numbers?

Actually DOING something about the complaints might help...

I must admit I have never heard of that one before (using your retirement visa and go to an empty queue).

Maybe this works in Bangkok for you. Which is hard to believe if you are alone and without your Thai wife.

But in Phuket they will send you away when you try this.
