Where To Stay, Dine, And Shop Near Kata Beach?

I've visited Kata Beach about three years ago, walking over from a little hotel in Karon Beach. I hope that Kata Beach is still kept clean by Club Med employees and also that vendors are not permitted to walk along the sand. Kata was one of the best beaches I've seen anywhere.

Can anyone recommend to me here or by e-mail to [email protected] the names of budget hotels near Kata Beach or near the southern end of Karon Beach? (I'm hoping to pay no more than 600 baht a day starting end of March, 2006, for room with private, Western-style toilet and shower in a quiet location.

I plan to stay there for two-three weeks while learning about living conditions and also finding a non-furnished budget apartment or little home to rent. I'm hoping to pay no more than 12,000 baht a month with at least a 6 month lease.

I also appreciate names of non-luxury restaurants and shops in the Kata and Karon areas for my daily needs.

Thanks for any feedback...........Dan Swift
