Mortar Shell Found at Chiang Rai City Hall

A 60-millimeter mortar shell has been found at the Chiang Rai city hall.

Officers from the Chiang Rai police station, along with a local bomb disposal squad, rushed to the Chiang Rai provincial hall after a rocket-like object was found there.

An investigation found that the object was a 60-millimeter mortar shell, which was left at the base of the King Rama V statue.

The shell was later taken away from the scene in a steel box.

Authorities said the shell was in active condition.

Chiang Rai city hall officials panicked when they heard about what had happened.

Police believe that a group of ill-intentioned people left the mortar shell there, aiming to stir up a situation.

The mortar shell is believed to be left there over the weekend and authorities are preparing to look at footage from close-circuit cameras to find the perpertrators.
