Rugby World Cup.

So - the quarter finals pit four Northern hemisphere against each other, and four Southern hemisphere.

England to beat France

Iremland to beat Wales,

South Africa to beat Wannabees

All Blacks to beat Argentina

Looks like an Ireland / England final.

Well I underestimated the loss. The Kiwis trounced the Canadians 79 - 15 despite the Canucks best effort at territorial play.

In 25yrs or so of watching Canadian rugby I've never seen the Canadians challenge the NZ defence like that. Unfortunately they were outclassed and the ABs capitalized on every mistake. Still, I see hope for the future in Canada's effort, and am quite proud of the guys.

One thing I was really impressed with was the local Kiwis cheering when Canada scored, and the sportsmanship they've shown all teams throughout the whole tournament. They definitely are my favourite WC hosts.

So you reckon the Irish can take Argentina, and you'll come out on top against the What'llitbes?

(just kidding, donny)

Agreed. It is always good to challenge the best to seejust how far you need to aspire to. It is too easy to sit on your laurels whenyou play inferior opponents.

Kiwi support for visting teams has been immense.

Teams were initially based in towns and cities across N.Z.

These towns where these teams were based, and played pool games, were resoundigly supported by the locals.

All players were treated like royalty, taken into homes, and much more.

No more games in the south island, Sept earthquake stuffed the Cnhristchurch venue, mostly transferred to Auckland.

For all involved, it has been a great experience.

Hopefully, the ALL BLACKS will win, despite Humphs choker claim.

Carter or no Carter, one man does not a team make.

Good luck to all the surviving teams.

According to other reports (no more to be believed than the MoS) this was an old girl-friend of Tindall.

Not only the toilets, there're quite good at the games as well............

You know my post is more in hope than belief.

But England have long relied on Jonny Wilkinson for kicking, and on set-pieces he has failed this tour.

He's still OK when under pressure, clearing his lines, but not place-kicking. Need Flood for that.

The management team must (I hope) realise that from now it is attacking rugby, taking all possible points, that will win matches. No more defensive teams should be fielded, and that is against the grain for Martin Johnson.

Defensive play was OK in the pool matches, but not for the knockout stages.

Somebody - obviously not Martin Johnson - must explain to the England squad that rugby is a team game.

Geriatrics? When Simon Shaw came on (probably the oldest player in the competition) England started to improve.

But then he is a Wasps player.

Through the whole competition - I am disappointed with the number of scrums that collapse. I think this is the recent fashion of body-hugging shirts (designed to allow the player to slip tackles). The donkeys in the scrum should have strengthened areas where opponents or your own fellow donkeys can grip well and thus many less scrum collapses.

Through the whole competition - Jonathan Caplan has been an excellent referee.

No need to watch any more - England and Ireland out - what interest is left in these other teams?

being a life long Wasps fan and having lived most of my life within spitting distance of Repton avenue i have long been under the impression that the main reason why this and other England teams have not been able to achieve, lies solely in the fact that their is too much of a Leicester influence within the England set up and their whole outlook in how they go about playing the game.

while i admired Johnson as a player his whole way of thinking on how the game should be played is Leicester through and through. unlike when Woodward and Ashton took us to successive finals. and just look who is captain ? Moody. plus you have a large contingent of tigers in the squad continuously being picked ahead of others when still under performing. not to mention the typical traits of Leicester like killing the ball at the break down and giving away needless penalties in crucial positions and phases of the game.

for me there needs to be more of a mix in play and players that represent the red rose.

have always thought the rfu missed a trick in not appointing Gatland, Edwards and Howley when they had the chance.

Tomorrow's Springbok/Wallaby match could be the best so far this tournament.

It will have to go some to beat the Welsh/Paddies................Wonderful game

Hard match, but Bryce Lawrence will now be able to stop all the chat in the Aussie press.

Hands in the ruck, high tackles, so on - he couldn't see any Wannabee offenders.

And he was so one-sided in an earlier England match (against England). I wasn't going to say anything, but understand that there have been many comments in the Aussie press.

Now three of my forecasts have gone down - so what about the fourth? Will the Pumas come out on top?

There were many things missed by Lawrence.

One Springback, jersey 16, nearly pulled O"Connors head off and hung on before dashing the lilguy to the deck..

Dunno the ref yet for ABs PUMAS game yet,

No, no, no.

The 'bok had his arm over the shoulder and down the chest after the first five seconds.

It was the other 'bok pulling on O'Connors leg at the same time who caused the pain.

But BL gets up my nose anyway, with his 'crouch' (go for a cup of tea), 'touch' (pick his nose), (pause, pause, pause until the lights change) 'pause', (think about what comes next), 'engage'.

Didn't happen in this game so much - which shows inconsistency.

There should be a rhythm set by all referees on this chant, so that scrums are aware of what is required of them. Rugby donkeys ain't the brightest of animals.

Richie McCaw's opinion as well. Said the Argies stood up for 70 minutes.

(Should've stopped the game at half-time - then all my predictions would've been wrong)

Why bother with the final.

All Blacks in a cake walk....

Another championship notch in their caps.

I heard the Kiwis were intimidated by some of the Samoans in the scrum

er, in case you hadn't noticed the kiwis haven't won a world cup since the very first won was contested for down under in 1987. plus, they have a habit of choking in the later stages. of which i am sure they are well aware of and the rest of the rugby world take great delight in reminding them about when it gets to the business end of the competition. especially as they are now without their star outside half play - maker DC and the Argies kept them trie less for nearly 70 minutes yesterday. wink.gif

add to that also that they are playing on home soil and the expectation for them to win is immense. will all contribute to a massive amount of pressure hanging on their shoulders to win it.

didn't you know ? rugby isn't just a sport in New Zealand, its a bloody religion mate ! biggrin.gif

I'm assuming Zzaa was being sarcastic - as in so many other of his posts (including the one about dancing round the house in lacey pink panties - I hope!)

ABs down to third choice fly-half. If the Taffies can do the French, I smell an upset.

If?? If??

The Welsh must win, otherwise the French would be insufferable. even more insufferable.

But if the Taffs and the Kiwis meet in the final, what are the odds of any streaker being rather woolly, and not making it past the halfway line?

Call her BaaaBaaara.
