PHUKET: -- South Korean Ambassador to Thailand Chung Hae-moon today paid a visit to Phuket Governor Tri Augkadachara at Provincial Hall to say farewell before his return home.

“I am going back to [south] Korea at the end of this week as I have completed my four-year term in Thailand,” Ambassador Chung told the Phuket Gazette.

He encouraged more Korean companies to offer to join projects to develop Phuket’s overall infrastructure, not only the light-rail system currently proposed.

“We would like to contribute to the development of Phuket in terms of its infrastructure, and we encourage Korean construction companies to assist the Phuket Provincial Government in its efforts to upgrade the island’s transportation facilities.

“This would make travel more convenient for local people as well as foreign visitors, including Korean tourists,” he added.

Amb Chung said he requested the governor to hold regular meetings with members of the Korean community, “so that their opinions may be shared.”

He added that he was happy with the support Phuket’s authorities provide for the Korean community on the island, and that he felt Phuket was safe for Koreans to visit.

“We have many Korean tourists coming to Phuket, and this is likely to increase with an additional flight possibly being scheduled to assist with the growing demand,” said Amb Chung.

“I brought this to the governor’s attention to make sure that all Korean tourists will enjoy their stay in Phuket, without encountering any problems,” he added.
