Why Are There Riots In France

Featured Replies

but yet again , it seems to be the muslims that are making such a noise.

wonder why the chinese , the thais , the hindus and the jewish immigrants arent out there biting the hand of their hosts.

The French, since the Dreyfus affair (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dreyfus_affair) have never really been able to come to terms with their anti-Semitism (I write this in the broadest meaning of the word).

Even the French Arabists are tainted with an elitist form of Orientalism (see "Orientalism" by the late Palestinian/American Professor Edward Said).

The extreme right (with hard fascist dimensions) has always been virulent in France - witness M. Le Pen.

The French, particularly in the War with Algeria's FLN, were amongst the, if not the, most brutal colonial powers (all this within living memory).

Add all this together with some anti-Muslim legislation (the banning of head scarves) and some perceived social injustices, and you have a powder keg waiting to be lit.

I still do not believe that the electrocutions alone started the riots. Their course and planning has been in preparation for months.

“Problem with riots? We have no problem. It’s all under control."

frechshotgun.jpg

French policeman holds a spent shotgun shell fired at them during riots.

You have to wonder at the ‘Lamestream Media’s' depiction of the alleged chaos in Iraq when you see images like the one below of a ransacked police HQ from a Paris suburb.

Welcome to the world of jihad, Pierre! France needs Charles Martel (Martel means “hammer") to lead it to victory as he did in the Battle of Tours in 732.

We must never forget that France was the colonial power in Algeria (with whom it fought a very bloody war of independence), Morocco, Tunisia and, post WWI, Lebanon plus (not without significance) Syria.

Algeria, the only country to take 8 years to beat the French.

But nevertheless, a victory for terrorism.

The FLN has become a model for future Arab terrorist organisations.

All up its the open borders policy and immigration.

Maybe Thailand is being smart about managing immigration, and keeping the country fairly closed.

Seems most of these post 1960 s immigration projects have failed wherever you look.

'Harassment'

Community leaders from France's main ethnic minorities have demanded new laws to end discrimination in jobs and housing, and an end to what they say is police harassment.

They resent police searches for "sans-papiers" - illegal immigrants - and the constant threat of deportation hanging over them. They also want the right to vote, even for those without French citizenship.

HA!!!!!!!

let them eat cake !!!!

They also want the right to vote, even for those without French citizenship. [/color]

They want rights? How about living up to some responsibilities?

If they aren't citizens and they take part in an insurrection, send them away. There's enough homegrown ######s in France without having to import more.

You guys are too funny. Missing the point entirely. It says a lot about your analysis capacity.

It's not about religion. This is not Iraq either (a far worse battefield) where NO REAL BODY COUNT are being released (except the propaganda numbers from the US army)

This is all about lifestyle and a better living. Think of the black community in the 60s. Same problem here.

I guess discussing social unrest and social ideals in this forum is like discussing philosophy in a bikers bar. It doesn't make sense and will only get you stupid and irrelevant replies

Pretty amazing when you can write a post that proves its own point eh? :o

are you implying that all bikers are thick? :o

You surmise too much. How do you know she was lucky?NZ does have it's own problems similar to Europe....not to the same extent though.

I'm not buying your "poor Immigrant" crap though. What about the Christians, buddhists or Athiest Immigrants.....are they creating <deleted>.

And this is exactly the problem. Not to the same extent as Europe, so you have no idea what you are talking about. To say it politely, and with all due respect, you are talking out of your arse :D

What about Christians, Buddhist ? humm, never heard of a Buddhist only or Christian only country where citizens (note the word) were colonized and then imported into another country. Would you share with me if you find one ? once again, with all due respect, your worthless 2 baht just show how you misunderstand this whole ordeal by mixing religion, countries, immigration into 1 big pot and make the wrong conclusions from it all.

You are a US citizen, right ? should I make my own wrong conclusions ? :o

my point exactly since I had you in mind when I wrote it :D

You never fail me :D

Seriously, try to think beyond the obvious, because what you are saying is so off the mark, I am not sure if it's funny or sad

This is facism, and Sarkozcy is trying to do that. I don't agree with the violence of it all, but they have also been victims of a system.

You didn't think too hard about this solution. This is the "lazy" solution, the easy one. Integration is more than that and it means compromise on both sides.

Yes, but once one of the sides starts setting fires and burning other people's property I think they should forfeit their place at the bargining table.

Hmmm, rioting in almost 300 French cities now ! 12+ days of riots.

(from AP News) Outside the capital in Sevran, a junior high school was set ablaze, while in another Paris suburb, Vitry-sur-Seine, youths threw gasoline bombs at a hospital, police said. No one was injured. In northern France, a nursery school in Lille-Fives was set on fire, regional officials said.

In violence Monday, vandals burned churches, schools and businesses, and injured 36 police officers in clashes around the country,

Apparent copycat attacks also spread outside France, with cars torched outside the main train station in Brussels, Belgium. German police were investigating the burning of five cars in Berlin.

Villepin said ''organized criminal networks'' are backing the violence and youths taking part are treating it as a ''game,'' trying to outdo each other. He did not rule out the possibility that radical Islamists are involved, saying: ''That element must not be neglected."  (France's community of Muslims, at some 5 million, is western Europe's largest.)

I liked this part:

"It's the start of war,'' cried one teenager. ''We hate the police,'' yelled another.

''The 'elders' of the projects have tried to calm us down, but we don't care,'' said 20-year-old Karim, gesticulating wildly with his arms and then concentrating on rolling a hashish joint.

Sounds like a proper Muslim youth to me (rolling a hash joint) :o

All that started over the accidental deaths of 2 youths who were running from the police ?

Sounds more like an excuse for criminal rampage. So you don't like the conditions you are in, you go out and start burning churches and hospitals ? With your hash joint hanging out the corner of your mouth ?

So you think that the blacks in the US should have given up little "civil" rights after the civil rights riots in the 60s ? that they had no right to a seat at the bargaining table ? you know very well this is not what happened back then. The riots were the reasons why they had to go to a bargaining table, because there were no discussion or "bargaining" in the first place as they were being ignored and let to rot in their ghettos. Only when they started to riot, that the public started to take notice.

You must have asked this question a thousand times. I am a muslim fundamentalist living undercover in Pakistan. Happy now ?

As usual, you dodged my question about finding a Christian only country suffering from emmigration problems :o

No, I think the ones who burned, looted, and killed in Watts should have been jailed. Those who used non-violent protest, and political action are the ones who really made the difference.

The looters in Watts were opportunistic criminals. Martin Luthar King jr, Edgar Nixon, and Rosa Parks were heros.

Butterfly is Belgian.

You can tell from his syntax and supreme intelligence.

He also writes pop songs.

Wonderful hit parade, the Belgians have.

Those who used "no-violence" were only listened because they were a contrast to the "violent" ones. Without the "violent" ones, nobody would have given a shit to the "non-violent" ones. These kind of things are much more effective when they are contrasting pairs.

The "Da" language, I hear you. Actually I am not familiar with it. I see it around in different forums, decipher what I can decipher, but that little thing you posted, I couldn't make any of it. Sounds interesting though.

So what does it mean ? don't be shy ??? or PM me if you can't publicly :D

PS: I am not even sure we are speaking of the same thing. Oh well.

You still are, mon cher - a momentary lack of concentration - call it a senior moment - wont happen again - you're not worth it.

Au revoir.

So you are saying that violence is justified then ?

If you have a disagreement with somebody (person/organization/government) , or think you are being discriminated against, then it is alright to resort to violence ? :D

Well, watch out Baht Bus mafia, and other places that use a double-pricing system for foreigners ! I'm sure there are a lot of people here that feel discriminated against in one way or another. :D

Maybe they should all resort to violence as well, as it sounds like trying to resolve matters peacefully won't be worth the time or effort (according to some). :o
