Cut? Cutting?

Featured Replies

My missus is due with our first in a few weeks & we've booked into the Bangkok Pattaya hospital on the Sukumnvit Rd.

I haven't been able to go to some of the appointments but at the one last week the doctor told me that they would only '"cut" if it was comepletely neccessary & that they were aiming for a natural birth.

If she doesn't go into labour on her due date then he suggested "cutting"again.

I asked if they could induce but the reply was that it depended on how much fliuds around the child.

This term "cut or cutting" does concern me plus my girl told me that he has brought up the possibility of "cutting" on most of her appointments.

Is this a c-section or opening up to prevent tearing?

She's Thai in very good health, 29 & the doc has said that the child is a very healthy size.

I'm not a giant either so not expecting that to be an issue.

Am I being overly concerned & what are my options at such a late stage?

I don't think you are being overly concerned, but I had my first born by C section 1 year ago in Bangkok Pattaya, but we elected to have the C section and it cost only 40K because we shopped around and booked in advance.

40K is cheap for anything in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, especially as it includes a 3 night stay and all the baby care etc.. but when you are in a position to shop around in advance, hospitals become more competitive, in my case I used a freelance OB-GYN doctor called Supanee from Naklua who just uses Bangkok Pattaya as a venue.

But you must be prepared financially for someone to turn around and say a C section is needed and you will have to pay XXX amount before they operate. An emergency Caesarian will not be cheap and you can't shop around.. I'm not trying to scare you, Ive been where you are.. but just make sure there are funds in reserve should the unlikely happen. As in my case, the extra charges from the hospital were a mere 700 baht and the 200K I had in reserve went on baby stuff etc..

Good Luck, wish you all the best!

The doctor is talking about a c-section

Only if necessary sounds great, let the doctor know that you and the mother wants to avoid if possible and ask the doctor to clarify why if he wants to go ahead. At the end of the day, take his advice, he's the professional

Don't worry, the doctor knows what he is doing and your girl and your child will be just fine

Thanks for the replies & the common sense answers

I have funds to cover & the good fortune to get decent BUPA cover as well.

I've read through these forum pages & talked to a few folks who'd had children here & they are stories of hospitals basically performing procedures in order to pad the bill when they know they will be covered & this behaviour greatly worries me.

It not a case of complaining about being ripped off more a case not doing the best by the mother & child.
