Going to Penang in a few days, and I will be applying for a

single entry O type visa through an agent with all paper work

together.

I know some people have had their passports back on occassions

in super time, but realistically, how many nights will I be in Penang

if I hand my passport to the agent on monday night.

Thanks

At most two nights. The agent gives your passport to the Embassy on Tuesday morning and you get it back Wednesday afternoon. Some have gotten it back the same day so it could be Tuesday.

Visas issued in 1 working day (Mon-Fri). Applications between 9:30 and 10:30 only.

Collections between 11:30 and 12:30 only on the following day.

Be aware of Malaysia's Public Holidays, they have lots. :o

Are you sure? This is not the times they have worked in the past. It has been in by noon and out after 2PM the next working day. And yes, they are closed on all Thai and Malaysian holidays.

If the agent has good connections then you can get your passport back the same day.

As far as I now there's only one on Chulia Street with this ability.

Used him before for 80 RM ( 800 Baht) extra charge for fast service. Well done and quick. Got it the same day after 5 pm.

Report:

I arrived Sunday evening in Penang -

applied Monday morning 9am for non O 1y multiple -

reason: Thai child (not married) -

showed the birth certificate of my child + 100K in my Thai account -

paid 500 Ringit -

was told to return next day at 2pm -

picked up my visa next day 2pm...

All was done in 24 hours only by myself and worked perfectly.

Returned to Thailand last Wednesday...

Attention: There's a sign at the Consulate reception

which reads there will be 'NO special treatment' to speed up the application.

You also have to factor in your travel arrangements, if you're flying then fight times could make a difference to the number of nights you stay, if you're mini bussing then there are lots of mini buses coming and going to Hat Yai so should be 2 nights max.

Right. I took the train, and the returning train leaving Butterworth at around 2 PM was cutting it too close to only spend two nights. I arrived Sunday afternoon, left Wednesday afternoon. Plus, two nights on the train.

My agent, Manaff, said if he's lucky you can catch the train on time, if he receives the completed visa by 11 a.m. But especially with all the recent holidays, I figured the consulate would be mobbed by requests, and I took the additional night.

As lopburi3 says, in before 12 noon ,pick up after 2.00pm the next day. Although some posters have said they used an express service, i have never heard of this ,so i would not count on it being available.

By Train..... allow a 3 night stay.

By Bus........allow a 2 night stay.

By Plane......some have indicated that it is possible to do with 1 night stay , but this is cutting it really fine. A slight flight delay could throw a spanner into the works,so 2 nights to be safe.

Just got back, used parvez bookstore. They sorted everthing for me...but he

did say he couldn't do express service as non imm takes more time??

But the two days down there were good for shopping, spent way too much

money.....all that electrical equipment!

Thanks for the replies
