Hello Scoop1, sorry, I thought I was cought up on PM's.

Yes, I've been busy with the hydro and the dirt here.

I was trying to get 800 Lt of coir ordered and they couldn't

ship as they are S. of BKK, flooded and shipping is down.

Plan B.,dirt, the tractor guy couldn't come as he's harvesting

cassava.

Will try to order coir again next week.

Here's the start of my limited tom growing this year, TP'ed

on Nov.11, and what they look like today. Still cleaning up

an area to move them to.

The chillies were my main growing item this season, not a

Thai chili in sight.

ps, the tom's are OP

Hi Scoop, Rice, I have a project going that needs some calcium nitrate, also looking for a foliar micronutrient without npk, and what the heck fungicide is in the photo? I could use some. I' m trying a few chilis here too.

Hellow hawallman, the fungicide is 50% Captain.

For micro's to spray or water with, see the pic's.

I've bought it here in Korat in the 10Grms pckt.

it also comes in 100 Grms packet or by 1Kg bags.

I buy the Kg as I use it in my hydro nutes.

For 1KG bags, WESCO will EMS to you.

About Bt.520-50@kg and Bt.80 for EMS and the

usual LOS bank money transfer.

What kind of chillies are you growing?

In BKK, I think KU Garden Center by JJ has it.

The Captain is from KU, from my last trip before

the flood.

Hello Rice, Thanks. Unfortunately I don't get further west than Kalasin. The thumbnails will help. I can show to our local farm store. I'm growing chi faa chili. The local flower stand had them. I planted other kinds last year, but the nematodes got them. This year I poisoned them. I lost chilis, melons, tomato too last year from those little nasties. My green beans were eaten before the seed broke the surface. It's too bad that good granular insecticides like abamectin aren't available here. Still questing for calcium nitrate, any leads appreciated.

Hello hawaiiman, for the cal nit you should be able to find it locally

in 1Kg bag or 25Kg. I've ran short a few times and picked up a 1-Kg

bag till my 25Kg order arrived from BKK.

rice555

Hello Scoop1, I missed out on ordering black tomato seed this year and just ordered

a pkt. with my chili seed order. So I will see how the "Burrell's Special" works out.

Burrell's has been a family seed Co. since 1900.

rice555

Burrell's Special 70-75 Days. Determinate vines produce large red fruit averaging 8 oz.

- 3"x2 3/8 tall. Good appearance & flavor. Has shown ability to set fruit in hot weather.

Has tolerance to Fusarium and Verticillium.

(Pkt. $1.50, about 250-seeds)

Hello hawiiman, the Captain I picked up at K U Garden Center in BKK,

They seem not to have a www any more by my looking, but here's

their info.

Captan isn't it?, not captain. check formulation and possible toxicity, some formulations are rated "danger" (category I)

http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/captangen.pdf

dont' know if you can find it there, but this is touted as less toxic alternative:

Hello Drtreelove, As the former operator of the (at the time) largest organic truck farm in my home state, I am sensitive to environmental issues. You hit the nail on the head when you questioned local availability..

The LD50 of Captan is between 5000 and 9000 mg/kg. It has no apparent mutagenic effects, but will produce tumors in mice at 300 mg/kg. Thus a 70 kg human would have to ingest 21 grams of it to cause a tumor. As I would use it a very dilute form as a seed treatment, there would be no risk. Farmers are by necessity practical and pragmatic. Many useful materials have negative effects when not used properly. I find it ironic that activists rant about various innocuous (used properly) materials while smoking various materials, drinking various alcohol solutions and coffee, and downing handfuls of nsaids.

Nothing personal, by the way. I appreciate your concern. Given the choices: not growing food and relying on growers who don't care what they use, importing everything from elsewhere at a high cost, or checking the facts and using appropriate materials, I choose the latter.

Hello Dr. Tree, how's Redwood treating you?

This is the info I found from the Co's www.

http://www.cdms.net/LDat/ld06F001.pdf

http://www.cdms.net/LDat/mp06F002.pdf

This from their US site, couldn't get the OZ

one to work.

rice555

Hawaiiman: "...checking the facts and using appropriate materials..." Good outlook; that's all I'm saying. Too many people don't make the effort to do that.

Hey Rice, The redwoods are awesome, the forest smells so good in the rain; and the oaks and all the trees are keeping us busy into the holiday season, and that's a blessing. It's nice to be back here in Calif where there's work for an old tree man, Silicon Valley money to pay for it, and an active tree care industry, continuing education to keep up my pest control and arborist certification, and awareness to support good tree care. Sooo much more satisfying than trying to buck the machete mutilation trend in LOS. But it's getting cold, my tropical lady is bundled up in wool and down, and cold nights and mornings have tempted me to call China Airlines for a standby. ForeverFord may not come back here until next summer; he doesn't like the cold either. His sister and her husband had us do two days of tree work; she lives up in the redwoods and oaks at Skylonda. My partner does most of the climbing now, I run the rigging on the ground; but I gave him a break and hauled my old bones up a big Doug Fir to rig some limbs off over her kitchen skylight. I just picked up an old RV from one of our customers, getting it fixed up to maybe head south for the holidays where it may be a little warmer. My wife loves the motor-home, said she wants me to drive it to Thailand; I told her that would be a challenge, she must have been sleeping when we flew over all that ocean. Best regards, Happy Holidays, don

Hello Hawaiiman, were you able to get the Captan?

Hello Dr. Tree, I'm glad things are going good for you there, this place can test your sanity, it's not all smiles.

I sat down to reread "The Ideal Soil" the other night, but only ended up checking my eyes for light leaks.

We're Having our winter here too, almost down to 60 at night, in the higher CM area, been frosty I hear.

I remember Skylonda, it was a blur in the road at night on Skyline, on the way to Hyw.9 or Hyw.1 behind the

wheel of my 67 Mini 'S'.(my first new car)

Your time in Redwood, did you ever jump in the fountain at the Pulgas Water Temple on Canada Rd. and go

through the pipe?

I friend that lived in the house behind me in San Jose family had a cabin in a gated canyon one N. from

Butano State Park S. of Pescadero. Both Butano and my friends place was nice to roam around the Redwoods.

Scoop1, You here yet in LOS? Here's where I'm at with hydro and dirt as of yesterday.

Don, Scoop1, Hawaiiman and to all other TV members, My Best to You and All Your Family's

rice555 (Marvin) PS is FEF's internet rusted shut??

The pic's are somewhat in order, the dirt to be seed on the 25th.
