Dtac Unlimited 'Edge' Internet

399 baht is unlimited internet for a month... the '*' and data amounts refer only to the speed being decreased after said data amount has been hit... am i reading that right? just don't want to get the 399 and then start getting smacked with 'surcharges' after hitting the limit.

That's correct. If you live in an area where there's no 3G get the cheapest "unlimited" package. You won't use the 3G part (unless you happen to wander into an area where 3G is available) but you'll get a month's use of EDGE speeds (which sometimes aren't too bad - depends where you are and how congested it is).

If you're in an area where you can get 3G, go for the top package (B890/5Gb) and get decent speeds at least for the first 5Gb, then edge for the rest of the month.

does AIS or TRUE offer something similar ?

does AIS or TRUE offer something similar ?

Yes, but from my experience AIS has spotty 3G coverage in Bangkok. Most of the time even though I had a 3G signal with AIS I had a hard connecting to the internet in my iPhone, even at Siam Paragon I had to use EDGE.

Switched to True H and so far much better than AIS, more coverage and 3G speeds are faster.

great, thanks bobl...

not sure about true, but it looks like AIS's unlimited package starts at 799. am i reading this right? or is it the same as DTAC where speeds are limited after said data amount is hit... there's no *. it just says 75mb/150mb/1gb/2gb...

Yes, this looks like new packaging for Happy (DTAC) mobile broadband packages. This definitely makes it easier for consumers. I definitely missed the introduction of these, thanks for highlighting them.

The 399 baht/month package gives you 1 GB at 3G speeds and after 1 GB you get 384 Kbps. Previously this plateau was 349 baht/month for 1 GB but then you had to pay per MB over 1 GB.

The weekly plan is also a nice option for some travelers/tourists.

I have been using the Kong Kra Pun SIM for a while.

DTACs eServices platform is easy to use and gives you complete management of your account. Further there is a new Android App. which gives you the same level of capabilities as the eServices platform.

And an older Android app.

I also have an app. entry for Happy eServices, which may have come on the SIM? It is basically a USSD front-end.

Is this a straight forward 50% cut in the unlimited rate or are there potential "issues" now to be had ??

If its a straight forward cut than they must be commended ??

I'm not sure I understand your questions? They still have GB thresholds so you need to subscribe to the package that best suits your monthly usage requirements.

1 GB/399 baht

3 GB/650 baht

5 GB/890 baht

The change here is that they raised the prices slightly and included 'unlimited' data, over the threshold, albeit at reduced data rates.

For example, the 1 GB package was 349 baht, but you paid per MB if you went over 1 GB. Now it is 399 baht, with 384 Kbps over 1 GB.

Im not a techie and am now confused...!

Am not interested in the 3G bit as its not available where we are, but am quite happy with Edge for what it is.

So am trying to establish if unlimited Edge is now 399 baht ??

Yes, that is my interpretation of DTAC's new pricing.

I've used both AIS (799 baht) and DTAC (890 baht) 3G services and they're both stable 3G speeds in Chonburi, however when I wanted to transfer some money from the UK via internet banking with DTAC my UK bank kept refusing my request. When I contacted my bank they informed me that my internet connection (DTAC) kept switching their ISP addresses which, in the banks eyes, could have meant my account was being hacked into so they blocked the transaction. When using AIS everything was fine, no problems at all.
