Deputy PM Sure Metropolitan Police Can Suppress Gambling Dens

BANGKOK: -- The deputy prime minister is confident that the Metropolitan Police Bureau will be able to suppress gambling dens without having to appoint special forces.

He also defended local police stations in areas where there are gambling dens, saying that the public should consider the officers' intentions.

Deputy Prime Minister, Police Captain Chalerm Yubamrung presided over the Police Commission and police stations seminar.

Before the seminar began, the deputy prime minister gave an interview in which he said that gambling dens are a part of Thai society

However, he pointed out that if the police officers have been negligent or have allowed permanent gambling dens to operate in their areas, the police are errant.

However, if temporary gambling dens are found in their areas, it is not the fault of the police, as in these cases, the police are not receiving anything from the gambling den operators.

The deputy prime minister insisted that it is not necessary to send out special officials to enforce the law, because many gambling dens have already been shut down.

He said that currently, the Metropolitan Police Bureau is handling the issue quite well.

In the meantime, he refuted the statement by Rak Thailand Party leader Chuwit Kamolwisit, who said that preparing for gambling activities is not considered illegal.

Chalerm said gambling dens that have tight security are not operating because of police negligence, but because security is so tight it is too difficult for police to infiltrate them.

Furthermore, if there is no advantage to the police for keeping the gambling dens open, the police cannot be blamed.

Regarding the Sor Sommai gambling den, the deputy prime minister insisted that high ranking officers are not involved and that the photos do not prove anything.

Chalerm believes that the separation of drug prisoners from other inmates will reduce drug trafficking in the prisons.

The Bhum Jai Thai Party spokesperson made accusations that drug arrests were a set up, though the deputy prime minister insisted that this accusation is not true.

He said drug cases carry the possibility of death sentence and no one wants to serve time in jail.

He also denied police involvement in the killings of drug suspects, saying that these individuals were killed by the gang members so that nothing could be traced back to them.

Th present police chief should suffer the same fate as the former 'for failing to crack down on them"

If he isn't sacked, looks like a classic case of double standards.

Deputy PM Sure Metropolitan Police Can Suppress Gambling Dens

Sure they can....they've done such a good job at it so far. Or is it they've done such a good job at denying any gambling dens exist.

He is most likly correct that the killing of drug suspects was done by fellow gang members. To say the police were not involved could have been re worded. "Only police who are not gang members were not involved"

He is spending as much time defending the police as the PM did defending 'froc'', and herself., both have about the same crediability.

If you read the statement logically, he expects police to be receiving pay-offs from permanent gambling dens. Corruption is expected?

Why do police have to infiltrate high security gambling dens - have they never heard of a search warrant?

I cannot understand what Chalerm means here. If the dens are found, and they are illegal, then the police should, according to the law, shut them down.

Whether the police are receiving anything from den operators should be irrelevant. Na kap?rolleyes.gif

But because the previous national police chief didn't find and closee ALL gambling dens chalerm and yingluck sacked him and appointed a thaksin family member to the job.

And now chalerm full of excuses why the police can't find all the gambling dens.

Seems to be the ultimate example of double standards.

But never mind, i'm sure it will only be days till we see another chalerm son appointed as an advisor to the national police chief.

Does anyone see a disconnect in the main story here, when did the story switch over the drug offenders and separation in jail....come on The Nation reporters, get your act together.

"Furthermore, if there is no advantage to the police for keeping the gambling dens open, the police cannot be blamed."

There is a very big reason police keep these places open, $$$$$$$, therefore taking this statement in context...the police are to blame

The most interesting aspect of this topic, as it relates to the drug dealers, is the police cooperation. Most of these guys could not get away with what they do, without the payoffs to the policemen. Instead of just discussing the punishment dished out to the drug dealers, why not discuss the punishment of the policemen found to be assisting the drug dealers. I propose a mandatory death penalty, for any policeman, anywhere in Thailand, who is arrested, tried and convicted for assisting drug dealers, in any manner whatsoever. Want to know how fast the word would get around? The toy policemen who are doing this would find another way to fleece the public, but not thought the pushing of drugs onto society.

You have to admit Chuwit is a real politician without shame. There is no honor amongst Thai thieves. As a former pimp and humans trafficker Chuwit should be serving a very long sentence instead of being in Thai parliament. The fact that Chuwit is elected show at the very most how immature Bangkok people are. If Chuwit lived anywhere else he would have been eliminated by his own people. Chuwit should shut up, shave his hair and enter the monk hood for a few years to pay for his sins and not point his finger to the people he used before.

Just why should he do that?

He has been pointing out to the police and the interior minister whgere there are illegal gambling dens that the police either don't know about but should and Chuwit has pointed it out to them, or they do know about it and aren't doing anything because they are making money from the gambling dens.

If you are saying that what he did before he should be punished for then EVERY politician who has committed illegal acts should be punished going back the last 80 years.

After all no politician of ANY party wants to admit to double stangards do they?

Freudian slip there eh, is there an indication of police payoffs at the other gambling dens. How can that be?

He misspelled "rich"

"Chalerm Sure Bangkok Metropolitan Police Can Suppress Gambling Dens"

That probably means suppress the news media from reporting on them.
