This is a friend of a friend. Though I would post it here in case anybody may be able to help them. As I'm sure you can appreciate his family are worried about him.

This is the information his mother gave his friends.

This is from Mark's Mother. More details and photo below:

Mark arrived in Tailand 5 December 2011. He went Durban, Johannesburg,Doha. Stayed in Bangkok, left there 8 December for Koi Samui.

20/12 left KoH Samui for Phuket PG 272 Bangkok Airways.

In Bankok stayed at Siam Place Airport Hotel then Sawasdee Smile Inn Bangkok.

On 8th December to 13th Amaresa Resort Koh PHangan

14 – 12 December Nids Bungalows Kho Samui

20 – 23 December Martini House Patong Beach

23 – 29 Somewhere in Patong

29 Dec to 2 Jan Good Nice Hotel Patong Beach

2/1 Karon Beach

3 – 5 Jan Karon Beach

8 – 11 Jan stayed in our hotel as were were over in Phuket – The Old Phuket, Karon Beach.

11 – 12 Somewhere in Nai Yung Beach

14 Moved to another place in Nai Yung Beach Phuket. He said it was a little town close to a main beach with quieter beaches on either side and a very remote beach further down the coast. Didn’t mention the name.

He moved to Nai Yung as it was less crowed and fairly close to airport.

He kept in regular e-mail contact and always when moving from one place to another. His last e-mail was on the 15th January fromNai Yung Beach. We have not heard from him since. He hired a motorbike for the day on 14th January.

He was due to fly from Phuket on 6 February on PG 272 but Bangkok Airways confirmed he was a no show (did not catch the flight)

Likewise he was a no show for his onward flight on KLM from Bangkok to Taipei KL0877. KLM were not prepared to divulge this information to me in the absence of a ticket number but we received a call from his employers in Taipei to say he had not arrived. He was due to start teaching English on 8th February on a years contract.

He did not use his cellphone over there (apart from about a week when we were there and he bought a card then never topped it up again as far as we know) but preferred to do all accommodation booking on line. The places mentioned above were prebooked and paid from South Africa. Others he did over there hence me not knowing the names.

He was travelling alone except for meeting up with two girls in Kho Samui I think that he knew from Maritzburg Varsity. He did meet one other girl somewhere else that he knew.

He drew from an ATM on 10th January in that main road near The Old Phuket wh ilst he was with us FNB)

He then drew on his Travelex card (statement shows) on the 23 January. He may still have been in Nai Yung Beach or possibly not. This was the llas withdrawal.

I have contacted the British Embassy (he was travelling on a British passport) and the SA Embassy (he is South AFrican and holds a South African passport) who have nothing on record to say he has been put in prison (although I wouldn’t rely on them having been informed). Neither can do much for me. The South African Police tell me today that as he is not in this country they cannot do much and I am to contact the South African Embassy in Durban. This does’t exist so am waiting to hear what next.

He does have anyone he knows in Thailand.

He was under the impression that he, because being British, would be allowed to stay for two months. Am not sure whether his passport was stamped for 2 months which means it would have expired, possibly causing him some trouble? His passport was issued in July 2011 and I only have the old passport number. SA Consulate won’t release his current number to me.

Hope this gives you something to go on. Sorry can’t be of more help but contact me if you have any further questions. It is very kind of you to go to this trouble.

Kind regards

Merneen Robson (mother)

Any help would be greatly appreciated by his friends and family.

Thanks
