I am going to accompany a friend to Penang to get a tourist visa for him. He reserved Air Asia for me yesterday but the timing is not quite right.

Go to Hat Yai on Air Asia on Thursday. Arrive Hat Yai about 5 PM.

Come back to Bangkok on next Tuesday from Hat Yai at 4:30 pm or so.

So I look at his reservation and try to figure it out the safe way. So we have to basically arrive in Penang on the same Thursday so we can give his passport to the agent on Thursday night or at latest Friday morning and get his tourist visa back on Monday afternoon and come back to Hat Yai get ready for for Tuesday 4:30 pm flight back to BKK.

Is there any transportation like mini bus or shared taxi from Hat Yai to Penang at about 6-7 PM at these late hours?? and information appreciate.

I don't know of any transportation that late and not sure if border still closes or not but you might have to take a taxi direct from airport to save time. They will make the border run (or at least I have been asked by drivers - may not be official). From border you could walk across and believe there are share taxi normally waiting on the Malaysia side that probably take you to a dispatch center about 8km from border where you would make onward share taxi arrangements (but that is just a guess as I have not done it).

You also need to be very sure there is no Thai or Malaysia holiday involved.

Believe I would be tempted to scrape that to Hat Yai flight and book direct to Penang myself.

Hat Yai may not be good for your health and you will probably be the only farangs in the area.

Yeah strange idea going to Hat Yai, I just flew Bangkok / Penang for a basic visa run, no problem, for your info the airport desk taxi fare into town is 38 Ringit but going back to airport I got 30 ringit though in a less salubrious motor. perhaps this could be got from the departures taxi concourse.
