Up Country Internet Service Providers

Featured Replies

I live in Udon Thani province and currently using AIS (well I forget the "name") internet service via my cell phone - 200B for 50 hours. The problem is, where I live the signal is dodgy - even for voice. Like I NEVER have consistant 4 bars and so my bandwidth tends to go sciotic. Just wondering if there's anything new somebody knows? I've looked at radio modems but pricey and I'm sceptical they would be much better. And just horror stories for the satellite options. Any suggestions otherwise? Cheers.

I always suggest people talk to neighbors to see what is available. They will always know more than us. Your options are DSL on a fixed telephone line, mobile data and maybe satellite.

I guess it would help if you narrowed down your location; feel free to be as specific as possible, your requirements (bandwidth, monthly usage), your applications, your budget.

Mobile Broadband, aka 3G is spreading, so you may be able to ge this type of service from: AIS, TrueMove H/CAT, TOT.

We have 3BB Broadband in our little village outside Nakhonratchasima and it works great. I have it hooked up to our computer and also run a wireless router for the laptops, cell phones and ipad. Not sure if its available where you are at but if so well worth it.

FYI: We live about 70 km E-NE of Udon Thani (Ampur BanDung). I don't think there is 3G or 4G around here yet. Neighbors don't use internet.

What's "3BB"?

I will try some of those "signal boosters". Can't hurt.

Thanks for the replies.

Please don't tell the guy in this YouTube video about the struggles of getting good, fast internet in Thailand (for you folks who have connections faster enough to watch streaming video like YouTube). He's the type of guy that internet service providers love (especially for their high price plans) and he probably couldn't understand there are places in the world where it's tough to get even a slow internet connection. I wonder how long it been since he's seen the light of day. YouTube

Actually, I can't try any of the "signal boosters" b/c I don't have the bandwidth to watch the streaming video. ie: I don't know what the suggestions are. I wonder if they are in text? Oh well....

Yup, definitely off the grid there; no CAT/TrueMove H, TOT, AIS. 3BB is a fixed-line broadband service provider. http://www.3bb.co.th/

How are you accessing the internet now? Via 2G: GSM data: EDGE/GPRS? That may be you best option for the foreseeable future.

Off-topic, why does that area show up as pink on Google maps?

Thanks for the info. Forgot to mention that there's no copper lines around here either - so no DSL or, it seems, the 3BB.

Yeah, I'm using the "EDGE/GPRS". It's not that bad when I'm in a good reception area (well, except for streaming video which I don't really need that much anyway.) Here it's just frustrating most of the time when the signal is dodgy although I eventually get what I want (sometimes after several hours of downloads and endless retry). But, I rarely need more than the 50 hours per month in any case. So, <deleted>.

Maybe pink b/c you looked for BanDung Ampur? I don't know. Anyway, I'm near the left boarder of that.

Cheers!
