I want to buy a printer on the above specs. No need for all-in-one, just a printer. Sturdy, long-lasting and good quality more important that price. It needs to be available now or at any rate, soon in Thailand - as well as have back-up here for supplies, service, and warranty purposes.

Thanks a lot.

The Epson WorkForce Pro WP-4011 maximises your savings with high capacity ink cartridges that yield up to 3,400 pages in black-and-white, at just USD 1.4 cents per page. Compared to conventional laser printers, you save up to 50% in running costs.

Operating cost is further reduced with the Energy Star compliant WorkForce Pro WP-4011, designed to lower energy consumption by as much as 70% compared to conventional laser printers.

Laser is not the way to go: inkjets are faster, use less power and provide colour for around the same capital cost as a mono laser

This is nonsense, if you consider the cost of ink cartridges, and the special paper you need for it to look at all decent. The printers are made to be virtually free, come with sample-size cartridges, and the real money is made selling the replacements. If the OP knows what he wants, i.e., monochrome, why interject such a comment?

FWIW, I have a Brother HL-2170W, 20PPM, WiFi, laser printer. It works flawlessly, and was a good buy at about 6000THB. I would stick with Brother, or the above mentioned Samsung, as they are well-supported, and toner (at least for the Brother) is cheap.

Except as a photo printer, I wouldn't touch an inkjet, plastic POS.

Or should I tell you how I really feel?

Be aware that if you do get an Ink Jet printer, it is necessary to print something with it at least once a week. If it is left unused for long periods, the printing heads tend to dry up and clog thus rendering very expensive cartridges useless.

Among my leading reasons for deciding on a laser.

Many thanks to Sateev and CharlieH for their recommendations. Both printers seem to fit the bill and I'll try to locate them in Chiangmai (which is where I live).

I've wondered about that: Lasers don't dry up if unused over time??

Has anyone done a cost comparison on toner? Printers these days tend to be almost "disposable" since they realised some years ago the far higher profitability of flogging consumables, some bargains aren't always bargains when you come to find out the cost of toner for your model...

nope, lasers are powder while inkjets are liquid that harden up if they go unused.

With lasers the powder is heated up allowing it to become viscous. You can go 6 months without printing anything with a laser and you'd still be golden.

Lasers also produce waterproof prints and have better resolution when printing on regular paper.

Have found the Brother 2270dw at IT City for 6990 baht. Haven't yet seen a Samsung 2525w which seems its competitor. Saw criticisms of the wifi set up for the Brother: that the cd is dated and the download is better, that the connectivity has to be done again every time there is a power cut. I'm not adept about doing these things and therefore very wary now. Is this a problem - serious enough for a technophobe like me to rule out this printer?

Is the Samsung 2525w free of this complication and is it available yet in Thailand?

SAMSUNG ML-1865W MONO LASER PRINTER WIRELESS

go here: http://www.invadeit....reless-p006773/

4390 baht.

An ultra small printer made to fit your specific needs. With its powerful wireless capabilities and One Touch Wi-Fi Setting, you’re no longer bound by cords, cables and wires. (from Samsung).

I had to put off my purchase a while but am now ready to buy. I've decided it will be laser, not inkjet, and wifi. Crucial to me is absolute simplicity and ease of installing with my mac, iPad and 3bb/time machine. I am hopeless at these things and really don't want to have a problem either for the initial seeing up or for re-doing it if that becomes necessary. I've seen Brother printers that I would have bought but it is the "One Touch Wi-Fi Setting" for your recommendation that attracts me.

Can you - or anyone else - please confirm or make an alternative recommendation based on the ease of installing with Mac criterion. I'd be most grateful.
