I will be moving from Bangkok to Pattaya. I currently have a subscription to True Online(hi-speed internet) and I have been provided with a nlink true online router.I recently contacted True about getting them as my ISP when I live in Pattaya.

My understanding of this techno stuff is not easy for me.

But from my discussion with True:

I can transfer the service from BKK to Pattaya but I need to check if where I live in Pattaya has a fibre optic connection. And i believe I can bring the router I presently have. True told me that in BKK I need a connection via a phone line but in Pattaya I can get a connection without the need for a phone line but a line needs to be installed for the True internet connection(?).

They also mentioned (unless I misunderstood) about the alternative of a cable modem(?).

I believe the above is not the same as wi fi.

So I am a little unclear and confused.

Can anyone kindly explain to me in simple layman's terms what is the situation in Pattaya re getting True Online and the alternative connections available?

Many thanks in advance.

It may be simplest to cancel your current True service and return the modem.

Then when you move to Pattaya look into the available service.

Typically DSL service, which is what you have now in Bangkok, is delivered over a telephone line. In some cases it may be a TOT telephone line, in some cases it may be a True telephone line.

3BB can also deliver DSL over an existing or new telephone line.

True does offer DOCSIS, which is data over a cable TV infrastructure and requires a cable modem. But I am not sure if this is available in your new residence.

Do you know if your new residence has True telephone service?

If you told us that you know that the new residence in Pattaya has an existing True telephone line/number then I'd say maybe you could try to transfer the service.

Thank you lomotopo for your helpful reply. I have not yet found a suitable place to live in Pattaya but a few possibilities which I will be going to inspect.

So u are saying if the new place has a True phone line then it could be worthwhile doing a transfer.

Currently I have a TOT line and the True internet comes off that phone line.

So what if my place in Pattaya has a TOT line? Can i get the True connection off that line? As True online told me that in Pattaya they do not use phone lines per se, unlike in BKK.

So i am still a little confused.

It may be best to wait until you have a place then you can determine your options?

Ideally I would look for a place with existing telephone service and/or broadband, be it TOT or True or even 3BB.

If a prospective place does have an existing telephone line take note of the number, even though you may ultimately end up with a different number, as this can be used to determine your service options, including a potential transfer with True.

What does True Online use to deliver services in Pattaya? Did they share that information when you asked?

Also maybe have a read in the Pattaya forum to see what options members are using for broadband access.
