Anyone comment on the real difference, other than the obvious extra seat room, between Economy and Elite on Eva Air.

There is currently only about 15k difference and wondered is it really worth it ?

For me, yes, it is definitely worth it. I've got pretty long legs, and the extra legroom (not to mention the slightly wider seats) are worth the extra cost. I usually travel alone, so I personally like the large divider armrests between passengers. Couples might not like it because you can't share space, but for me it's fine. Someone on the other thread correctly stated that you can't move these armrests to lay down if your row is empty, bug again, that is fine for me because I don't like to lay down across the row.

But in addition to that, I like the dedicated check-in line (hardly ever a wait), increased baggage allowance (helpful because I'm always hauling a lot), and the ability to pre-board if I want (avoiding the chaos that ensues when they announce general boarding). They say that the food is supposedly better, but I can't tell for sure, and that's not too important to me anyway. I don't fly for the food. It's edible, and that's sufficient.

The other thing I really like is that it's a small section - maybe somewhere around 40 seats? That section has its own toilets, so there's not usually much of a wait, if any. Due to the small size, the section seems quieter, and there are usually less children in that section than in economy (although I have seen it). And it's just more pleasant to be in a smaller section - I don't get that herded-like-sheep feeling.

It's definitely no business class, but it's a good option for people (like me) who can't afford business or first class. When you're used to flying only economy, the EVA Elite/Evergreen feels like luxury!

When I used to fly Eva PE Newark to Taipei (TPE-BKK leg was standard econ, no PE avail.) the PE seats were in the very front of the 747-Combi so there was almost no engine noise.

They do put families with kids in the very front where they have a bit of play area. If they do start screaming, you kind of miss the engine noise!

It is a good value, unless one books way in advance and flies coach on some cheaper airline. Right now, in USD, Eva Elite is about 1700. Can fly for about $1200 (LAX to BDD). So $500 USD is something to consider. My last three trips I made on short notice (3 days) and the EVA coach price was about 1350 versus Elite 1650. So for $300 it is an easy decision. Seats are bigger. Section usually has no babies although one flight did have one. The best part is checking in at LAX. I only have a carry on bag, but if I went coach, I would have to stand and wait in a very line to get my tickets. Elite class line usually has one person in it! I have made the trip from the US to Thailand 13 times and doing the Elite class is by far the best. The one problem is the way the seats recline. Under the seat in front of you is that entertainment center box that is more annoying on some seats than others. The recline is better than coach, but not as good as first class. I do sleep OK and again, the best thing is the check in at LAX and BKK also.

I fly Eva air elite mostly, and have long legs and think it's worth it.

one thing to note, be sure not to sit in the last row of elite seats, as they don't fully recline (at least not on the 777's that fly LHR-BKK)

cheers

Finnair economy has a larger leg room than most airlines and has great food and service. About BT40k

to LHR and fast too. Flies via Helsinki
