A House With A Private Pool Close To Patong At 30,000 Baht/Month?

As I recall I we paid something like 7 baht, I still have my spreadsheet from that time which shows in 2009 my electric alone was in a range of 2k to 4k per month, oddly it averaged only 1,200 the following year despite no changes to usage, that I suspect was because I started to ask some leading questions on the subject. The problem at Beverly Hills in this respect is that there is a single meter that sits between the supply and the individual units so billing is under the control of the land owner! The bigger problem however was the cost of water which at one point was a staggering 140 baht a cubic meter for trucked in water that was brown and foul smelling, fortunately we had a filtration system that cleaned up the quality but the cost remained very high. As most people on Patong will be aware there is a problem with the governemnt water pumping station in that it doesn't have sufficient pressure to pump very far up hill, hopefully that problem will now have been resolved.

No, still no gov water up the hill on Nanai 9. Trucked in water costs 100 baht/1,000 liters to buy from the 12,000 capacity truck.

The OP can rent a two bedroom house with roof garden at Beverly Hills (Patong) for around 35k month, the pool is a decent size but is shared with ten other houses and ten condo units, having said that few people use the pool. Note: beverly Hills is just off Nanai Road at the North end and up the hill on Soi 9, excellent views of the bay to be had.

I wouldn't stay in there if you paid me, it's already nearly fell down once and there is a huge crack across the swimming pool and terrace that's probably been covered up. Was a great project before the landslide.....buyer/ renter beware!!!!

Rubbish, I lived there for four years including during the landslip, the place is perfectly safe and is a great location. The engineering/building works that went into repairing the damage after the landslide were impressive.

They said the same about the retaining wall..

I was the villa behind you that went down the hill one late night.

I had a place in Kathu with private pool for under 30.. I know of one in Kamala with superb pool for about 40 ish..

Dont forget a pool can run as much as 5 or 6k in chems and electric depending on pump kw and design efficiency.

Funnily enough, I lived in Beverly Hills after moving from the Rawai House mentioned previously.

Great views and location. Although many of the units are showing their age and need upgrading.

The biggest problem for me was the black grime that floated up from Patong and settled on everything outside on the balcony. I had a persistant cough and worried what my lungs were ingesting.

What were you paying for electricity there, when i looked at the place

they quoted 7 baht a unit which was twice the price i paid with my own

govt meter

Yes the management there have their own transformer and when it blew jacked prices from around 5b to 7b to cover the 100k replacement.. Luckily my contract stipulated 5b and I held them to it without a price rise. As Gov rates were about 4.5 in my place before I was happy enough tho I still had a 15k electric bill one month !!

Its not government meter systems in that whole area, combined with the water issues up the hill made for some utility issues.

I know Thailand is different But, in most countries if you do a development which

needs a transformer to boost the power, the developer pays for and installs the

transformer, and you are billed by the electricity company direct on there meters

I seem to remember when in discussion with them on rates rising tat they had an odd supply agreement also.. That the development was under a commercial supply agreement or something strange like that. Done initially to save up front money but that it had an unusual charging structure over peak and off peak use. They never imposed the real tarrifs and just flat rated everyone higher and had a buffer.

It was something along those lines.

I just checked our current electricity bill 3.8 baht a unit in Chalong it was 3.2

It could be if you use more electricity you are charged a higher unit rate

The only way in my opinion the OP is going to get a house in

his price range is to come and look himself and rent directly

from a house owner, Agents are always dearer for the same house

The OP was asking about a house not a apartment, there are plenty of

apartments with shared pool for under 30K three bedrooms could be a problem

That is why glassdude said 'start your search from'. So you're agreeing with him, but still manage to make it sound like you're disagreeing.

1. I quoted you in full;

2. glassdude is saying the same as you're saying, with which I agree: come and do a search on the spot. The difference is he is giving a recommendation for a place to stay while doing the search.

Steven or is it Simon He is recommending a Apartment complex, The OP wants

to rent a house with its own private pool not a Apartment there are plenty of

apartments you can rent shore term at a higher rate

Glassdude is recommending a place to stay whilst he looks for a house with pool for 30,000 Bt/ month.

Thought that was obvious.

Of coarse, but they will have no problem finding a apartment with shared pool at

under 30K they are everywhere, they want a house with private pool, isn't that obvious to you

yup....

i do have a mate here that rents his pool villa 2 bedroom house for 32k a month...

But wants 2 months rent security and renter pays all electric cable etc....

but full for the next 6 months...

also the house is in Rawai not Patong as requested so not what the OP wants i guess...

with low season starting should be easy to find a house but need to come here look around not just go through an agent on the internet...

Judging by your posts, you're the one that's not seeing the "obvious".

I thought my nick was pretty obvious.

Please try to understand what 3 people on here now are trying to explain to you: you're saying the OP should come here to find a house himself. Glassdude is saying the same, and in addition he is saying: while searching for a house, a good place to stay would be the appartments he mentioned.

The resort recommended is in Rawai which is no where near Patong

where the OP would prefer to live close to, check the posted site there is

a location map on it, If they want to rent a apartment while looking there

are plenty in Patong or Kata/ Karon close to the main entertainment areas

nothing wrong with staying in rawai or chalong. even if you have a place in patong, you'll probably be getting super drunk when you go out and don't want to drive yourself anyway. once you live here, you'll find private taxis that aren't that unreasonable, especially if you and your friends go out at the same time. you could kata and karon also have active nightlife and are closer to patong (kata won't have homes in your price range, though.. you might get lucky with Karon) the same is true of Kamala. not too far from Patong. if you're staying here for 1 year, you'll want to be exploring non patong nightlife as well. chalong gives you easy access to nightlife in Phuket Town, Rawai, Kata and Chalong and Patong. no more than 30 min drive for any of them. Kathu is a terrible choice, though.

Nothing wrong with Chalong or Rawai, we live in Rawai and love the area

The OP wants to live close to the main entertainment areas which is Patong or Kata/Karon

personally i would not want to live in these areas, OK for a visit

That's right, the place he is recommending is in Rawai, how much further from Patong

which is the OP preferred area to live can you be without going to the north of the island

You and Stevenl are wrong, so don't tell me i am wrong, who is the third person who

thinks i am wrong by the way

You might want to read the OP again. Ya Nui beach is swimmable and Rawai has a good night-life.

"By the way, is there an alternative to Patong (good beach, great nightlife) which is more affordable? would love to get some info on that as well".

Isn't Ya Nui beach the one with all the rocks in the water, tried swimming there once, never again
