Purchasing Laws In Thailand

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the laws regarding purchasing electrical appliances in Thailand.

I have recently purchased a computer which has broken after only a month. I was given a one year warranty but when I took it to the shop they said the guarantee is only for 7 days, hence an argument ensued and they said have a look at Thai law, it states that it is only 7 days! Although I know this not to be true as other businesses have refunded me money for faulty electrical appliances in the past.

I have searched the internet for any documents related to consumer laws and purchasing laws but cannot find anything.

Does anybody know where would be the best place to look for this kind of information.

Kind Regards!

As said the guarantee is with with the maker - not the seller. Most sellers will take care of issue for a week or so but after that you must contact official service center.

I have had great luck getting an Asus netbook and an Olympus camera repaired/replaced here with wtys from USA (Intl).

I love Thailand/BKK. Just find the mfg's location, walk in, sort it out and in about a week to a day - it's fixed. No phone hassles, boxing it all up, RMA#s... Really drives home why Asia is winning and US is losing.

C'mon - what store in the West could you return an appliance months old and expect a replacement? Even the best situation MIGHT be 90 days but more like <30. Anything online goes direct to the mfg - end of story.

The 7 days is a customer-satisfaction warranty. You are allowed to return the purchased goods within 7 days and the re-seller will give you back your money.

For any other warranty-case you have to knock on the door of the manufacturer and it depends what they offer: on-site warranty, send the goods or bring them to a service-point nearby.

The best place to look for info on The Consumer Protection Act is: http://www.thailawonline.com/en/thai-laws/laws-of-thailand/122-consumer-protection-act-no2-be-2541-1998.html
