[Myanmar] New Broadcast Law In The Works

Burma is expected to have a new broadcast law by the end of this year, according to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma. Speaking at a workshop on media development in Naypyidaw, Deputy Information Minister Soe Win said the new law has been in the works since 2008. Tin Wan, the deputy director general of the state-run Myanmar Radio and Television, said the new law would include regulations concerning foreign broadcasters, but did not specify when such media organizations would be granted licenses. Burma currently has no privately owned domestic television stations.
