The Lure Of Thaivisa

..its like a bad soap opera.

You hate yourself for watching but have to find out what the ending is.

Except it never ends.

...and you can even participate.

Maybe you can change the outcome even?

dun..dun..dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

^ oh hells bells, save us all. WRAP UP YOUR LOINS beforehand!

well...there are the foodstalls by the local bus station and the ambiance ain't much to speak of but there are plenty of pretty country girls in cute little cut offs! and loads of ice cold Leo beer...

and I would designate meself to be Ms eek's bodyguard for the day...('look out an' get yer hand offa them thighs, goddammit...')

^ oh hells bells, save us all. WRAP UP YOUR LOINS beforehand!

Nice dish of pork loin served halfway through the piss-up would do fine.

I like it 'en papillotte' as well.

Doesn't the juice run down your chin?

yeah, but at the food stalls by the bus station no one has an oven and everything is prepared in a wok...and then you have to reach up and grab them teenaged thighs and say: 'how about them cracklin's, dearie...' and then: 'eek! you reek of Leo beer, Mr tutsi!...'...and then: 'no problems, doll...get yerself a pepsi and put it on the bill...'...with the panama hat down low and the inscrutable mirrored shades...heh, heh, heh...

things were getting active at the Suphanburi bus station bira salonu...

The Food Court in Lotus has a better selection although KFC is undergoing remodeling...

How do you remodel fried chicken?

Laying in the gutter with yet another bottle of vodka, Tuts??

We haven't had one in Phuket for a few years now (TV p!ss-up, that is). I think the problem with having a TV p!ss-up at Phuket is that someone would make some innocent, off the cuff remark and then would immediately be trolled, flamed and told to go back to whatever country they came from...

I volunteered to meet TV members the last time I was in Chiang Mai and nobody took me up on my offer.

Nobody likes me crying.gif Not even eek crying.gifcrying.gif sniff.

Then again I did have an unfortunate experience with some TV's when I was in CM in January. I'm not wearing a kilt again.

not quite, humph...it's the language that bothers me; a 'lure' is something on the end of a fishing line...'allure' is something altogether different...

nah...better to get my impressions here as I can't really contribute to a tourist thread regarding latin america...

I've spent a lot of time in the central andean region as that's where my mum's folks are from and it's not really a tourist place and not recommended for others than hardy travelers...I spent 2 years in high school there in 1965 (never a tourist as I have family there) before the drugs problem and it was quite an idyll; now the place is overrun by gangsters of the like I've never seen...DEA on one side and the narcos on the other and you have to be careful where you go as there is danger...but I haven't been there since my mother died in 1984...

I spent some time in Santiago in Chile on an assignment and that place ain't got much...even Valparaiso and Vina del Mar on the coast ain't much; some gringo I knew got mugged there at knifepoint...it was 1997 and I lived in Las Condes in Santiago, one of the nicest neighborhoods but the ghosts from the fascist Pinochet era lingered and things weren't comfortable...never seen a more polarised society between rich and poor regardless of the political 'stability'...Chile was the most stable liberal democracy in latin america before the military dictator Pinochet took over with US assistance...with Nicaragua a hypocrisy that I could no longer endure and I then left the US forever...

I became friends with an escort woman there (she helped me to clean the house and to put in groceries before the wife and son came to visit) and we stayed in communication for about 10 years...but things just petered out which I regret...

for me it was always my family or a job and not the Brasil party scenario...nice lookin' girls, though and maybe a look-in...

Great thanks, I knew I would get the truth from you. I have a notion to go from the Southern Tip up to the Arctic circle overland but I'm getting the impression it's just too risky. Oh well

Around forty years ago we were working for Skanska on a canal at the top of the Andes - 160km long.

The native population were around 5ft tall, of which 3ft was the depth of thorax. Nowhere else that I have worked was it so hard to do any physical activity. But after a couple of years we were finished and I could play rugby without any signs of exertion through the whole match. Excellent for stamina training.

(And I was a lot younger!)

humph...last time I was in Cochabamba (2825m) in 1984 I helped to push my cousin's car to get it started and almost died afterwards...and his wife said: 'a bit of sorochi (altitude sickness) and here, have some mate de coca and relax...'...

an infusion made from coca leaves is a traditional remedy in the andes, good fer what ails ye...I useta carry a big sack of coca leaves out to the family farm with my grandmother 'mamita' to distribute to the local campesinos when at work during the potato harvest...that and cuyuna, hand rolled cigarettes bought from the market that cost about USD0.05 per dozen...I useta smoke them meself when nothin' better was available...then, big jugs of locally brewed chicha appeared when the work was over...all the discussion was in the quechua language and I didn't have a clue but my mamita would always indicate to me proudly as a helping grandson...

now, gangsters have usurped all of the traditional uses for the leaf and then the DEA gets involved and what used to be a central andean idyll is now corrupted forever...

an'...I even had a hi-so girlfriend who would say: 'and why do you choose to engage with the rabble, tutsi?...'...and I said: ''cause she's my grandma, goddammit!...'

oh...and then we had a thatched, mud brick hut out in the fields where we would sleep and prepare simple meals with fresh potatoes, fiery chiles and bits of meat (sometimes folks would come by with quesillo, a locally made cheese and my favorite) and then to sleep peacefully...the water was hard to come by but we made do...mamita she would take the muddy water and let it settle in an olla and then use the top most fer drinkin' and the rest fer a bit of a wash...

she liked me...she had had 10 children 6 of which survived...I felt privileged...

then we returned to the old family home which was her inheritance in a village called Colcapirua between Cochabamba and the next biggest town in the valley called Quillacollo and it was ancient; mud brick walls almost a meter thick and outside the doorstep the groove from ancient cattle and sheep traffic was very deep and then she immediately went to get water from the public pump and I said: 'leave it to me, mamita...'...

then...one day, I went to get water and some local buddys hijacked me and we got drunk on chicha...and then mamita she got righteously pissed off...and then I supplicated and said that would never do it again and she forgave me but she never let me forget it...

'cause I was a gringo the local lads always wanted to cause mischief and were always lurking about with the local chicha...which was quite nice and I spent many an afternoon in a mud hut playing 'sapo' and quaffing the local brew before returning to high school in Cochabamba on Lunes and to face the harsh light of reality...

I now live in rural Thailand and somehow it seems that I have seen it all before...

The Food Court in Lotus has a better selection although KFC is undergoing remodeling...

Boon? is that you? me old niggah! you tell me when next you down the Suphan Lotus food hall an' we'll have them beers that we always talked about...

to the assembly, I present Mr Boon Mee who most of you don't know who was a vigorous poster on TV some years ago...a Suphanburi bon vivant, noted for his strong political views and an all around good guy...welcome back Boon!

Haven't seen him around the corridors here for quite a while - but I thought he'd been ba... oops, asked to leave. Apols to Boon Mee for my mistake. Still, he was happily (?) playing in corridors elsewhere, last time I looked... Always nice to get some of them back to here, where we are 'slightly' more polite lunatics...

'slightly more polite lunatics'???...get outta here; being a slightly polite lunatic is like being slightly pregnant...the boon mee/tutsiwarrior dialogs made thaivisa great...

555 Slightly pregnant as an example? You didn't know until she was 7 months...
