...if you don't care about use of your engine, just pure $ savings,I'll install Lpg system and pay 0.5 baht/km...

1) LPG systems i have run in the past cost about 2 to 2.5 baht per km. Where do you get the 0.5 baht figure from?

2) If you buy a new car, which is what we are discussing, and have LPG fitted, it will screw up your manufacturer's warrantee

3) If you buy a small saloon, the LPG tank will fill the entire boot, leaving you with no space.

4) The LPG i ran was very prone to stalling when sat in traffic, and on one occasion when a mechanic was trying to repair it, the engine exploded in a ball of flames.

So whilst i agree that if fuel cost is your only consideration, you could fit LPG and save even more money than E20, but the potential drawbacks are somewhat greater.

...you got that right wink.png

So other than losing boot space what do you consider the other drawbacks to be?

Yes but if someone is not worried about warranty because the vehicle is older then LPG is fine.

Quite frankly about number 4 "two swallows do not a summer make" so just because some clumsy mechanic caused a fire in his engine bay which can also happen with petrol does not make LPG a bad idea.

He doesn't like it fine.

LPG has been used for many years in many countries as an automotive fuel it is not something new, ,green or revolutionary.

Where does the idea that the LPG is anything about buying a new car come from?. The thread started if you have read it about an Almera with a Supercharger nothing about economy nothing about alternate fuels et al. Then it degenerates into Rangers, E20 and then LPG.

Many people are happy using LPG.

Yes i agree but i was keeping in mind the topic of this thread was the Almera which is a new car.

I agree, it's just that for me, having owned a lot of different cars, and never having had an engine fire before, it has stuck in my memory somewhat.

He doesn't like it fine.

I liked it whilst it was working.

The car with has a direct injection engine with supercharger and is available in thailand.

Strange. Wasn't available a few months ago when i bought one.

Hi

As you have a new Nissan Almera , I see it has an Idling Stop system , can you please comment on how well this works and any other thoughts about that feature , as Ive never driven a vehicle with an Idling Stop system .

Thanks wai2.gif

Didn't buy the one with idle stop. Tried the test drive version and thought it was a bit of a gimmick. The idle stop causes the air con to stop working. Was more interested in the keyless ignition feature, but in the end, decided if i was going to switch from my earlier booking of a Honda City before the floods came and screwed that up, to an Eco car, i really wanted to save some money, and so going for the top model seemed to defeat the purpose somewhat.

In summary my advice would be, if you buy an Almera go for one of the cheaper ones. If you want to spend some more money for a bit more luxury and sophistication, take your money to Toyota, Honda or Ford.

Thanks , I forgot about the manual gearbox version , I think the Idling Stop system on the CVT versions can be manually turned off ?

Yep that's right. Easy to turn on and off. The salesperson who sat with me when discussing the idle stop did admit that she always had it turned off in her car as she found it annoying. At that stage i was quite excited by this new green technology and thought her comment a bit silly, but as i drove it i kind of understood and my guess is if i were driving the car on a daily basis, i would have it turned off too, which kind of makes paying the extra a bit silly, unless of course you are buying the model anyway for other reasons.

Just looking what's currently available in a Eco / CVT versions , some thing budget for around 500,000 Baht range , with km/litre efficiency.

May be a silly question , but now you have had the Almera a bit ,( hindsight smile.png ) if you could turn the time clock back to before you purchased the Almera , would you now still buy an Almera ?

Absolutely but the crucial thing for me was that i saved 250k baht over the City i had on order. If i had gone for the top Almera (600k) which i was tempted to do, i would have only saved 100k and i think i would have had regrets, because at the end of the day, the City is the better car, in my opinion. For the money though, the Almera is fantastic value and i don't think anything, be it Mirage, March or Brio, comes close. Fantastic interior space. My only real criticism is it looks a bit ugly and the seats are too small for men - ok for petite women. I can live with that. Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to answer...

1.2-litre three-cylinder motor used in the Almera with a supercharger and direct-injection strapped on, power goes up from 79hp to 95hp yet economy improves from 20kpl to 25.2kpl..........

Still cannot work out why Nissan went with this Almeara, just looking on the roads in Thailand the Jazz is a big hit, so why the Almera and not the good looking 'Note' also has the same engine 1.2 lt.......... ??

the jazz is overpriced ,

Almera is a big hit already...just look around you,how many of them are on the streets...and with little styling, custom wheels, does not look all that bad...well,if they sell a turbo charged one, that will be good...

What I mean is the Almerea and the Note have the same chassis, engine and gearbox, the price would have well undercut the over priced Jazz

Looks like Almera,Sylphy and Teana share the same design philosophy...not really to 'hot' looking, but moderate and roomy... and they are selling pretty good....maybe not as much as Toyota, but I would consider Almera over Vios and definitely Sylphy over Altis... smile.png
