TRAFFIC AROUND MOCHIT AND HUA LAMPHONG SLOW

Traffic around the Mochit (หมอชิต) bus terminal and the Hua Lamphong (หัวลำโพง) train station has turned severe.

People traveling back from the provinces have been arriving at the two facilities in Bangkok since early morning. Traffic on Paholyothin (พหลโยธิน), Wiphawadee (วิภาวดี), and Kamphaengpetch (กำแพงเพชร) roads is now dense due to the vast number of passengers at Mochit bus terminal. This has prompted police from Paholyothin, Bangsue (บางซื่อ), and Wiphawadee stations to come out and help with traffic. People who arrived at the Mochit terminal this morning found that the number of taxis prepared to accomodate them was insufficent. Deputy Transport Minister Chaiyanand Charoensiri (ชัยนันท์ เจริญศิริ) admitted there was a problem with sending passengers off from the terminal due to the inadequate quantity of taxis. However no problem occured regarding the sufficiency of the coaches, and he is overall satisfied with the management of public transportation over the New Year's period. General Chaiyanand said the experience gained will be used for planning transportation management during this year's Songkran festival period.

At the same time Traffic around Hualamphong train station was also slow late this morning, and this has arisen mainly from the large number of taxis that are parking around the compound in wait of passengers.

If they would drop the meter and drive off, there would be no problem. It their incessant fare bartering that holds everyone up. I am hoping the the MRT puts them out of business.

If you need a taxi from Hualumpong, take the subway to Samyan and catch a real one. It will probably be as quick, and definitely less stressful!
