Should We Stop Calling People Overweight?

Featured Replies

Atlanta suburbs.

Its a solid democratic party district. Yes, the guy is clearly a moron but arguably better than McKinney, the anti-semite.

What JT means to say it is the voice of a BlacK Congressman. Nothing wrong with being Black or a Congressman for that matter but they tend to vote as a group. We call it the "Black Caucus". Now some will talk about the "Tea Party", but they're nothing against the "Black Caucus". Isn't that right JT?

No, that is not right. This particular congressman as well as McKinney previously from the same district is a MORON. Not all black democratic congressmen are like that. It is NOT the voice of the black caucus. The black caucus isn't anti-semitic. McKinney was. The black caucus doesn't think islands will sink from human weight.

What does it matter if one solitary moron, wherever he comes from, comes up with a crazy idea? Get real, guys.

What if the Congressperson from Georgia is right and Guam could tip over due to a weight imbalance?

Doesn't that make overweight people hazardous to the health and welfare of all others?

What if all the morbidly obese people in the US collectively congregated on top of the San Andreas fault and started jumping up and down? Part of California could slide into the pacific.

I think the Congressperson from Georgia could be on to something here.wink.png

I think you've overlooked something, chuck. Since it is self-evident that the earth is flat, if all the overweight people congregate in one place, they might go right through.

...and would then drift out into space being picked up on the Hubble telescope as distant planets.

Dunno. Although they must have pretty tough skin to hold all that blubber in, would it hold up in the vacuum of space?

If they explode there'd be a 'Lardy Way' competing with the Milky Way.

(And that's a choccy fattener)

This "flat earth" discussion, which is strictly on topic because we are discussing OVERWEIGHT people falling through the crusts of the earth and flying off into outer space, raises a question I cannot quite wrap my feeble, over-used , few remaining brain cells around.

Is the Hubble telescope in a stationary position over the earth or does it orbit around the flat earth?

If it orbits, does it have an elliptical orbit or is the orbit box shaped?

I've always wondered what the flat-earthers thought was underneath. Penguins? Australians? Or does it go on for ever? (and, like infinity, meets up round the back somewhere).

Lardy Way? Reminds me, I haven't had a lardy cake for years... I used to love them. Now that's on topic!

Lardy cake is basically bread with layers of, I suppose, lard, or perhaps dripping. Decidedly obesifacient (nice word, that; I've just made it up). But butter pies sound good... with lashings of butter.

Aaahhhhhh! Makes me remember my pre-teen breakfasts in winter. Couple of slices of bread and dripping, with the brown gravy part from the bottom of the dripping basin. Lined the stomach and kept out the cold.

Remember the 1947 winter - in East Anglia we still had snow under the hedgerows in June. (We had lots of hedgerows then, too)

Study: Obesity Could Lead To Depletion Of Earth’s Resources

ATHENS, Ga. (CBS Atlanta)

– A recent study conducted by scientists in London found that the obese persons of the world are playing an increasingly large role in the rate at which the planet’s finite resources are used.

“Increasing population fatness could have the same implications for world food energy demands as an extra half a billion people living on the earth,” the

study concluded.

The findings were published in the BMC Public Health journal earlier this year.

I was on the South coast in 1947, so didn't have it quite so bad. Dripping and all, we were still thin then... rationing was strict.

A lot of ignorance here. Fat people's BRAINS are different. Science knows this know from scanning technology. Diets over the long term almost always totally fail, mostly resulting in rebounds even worse. Only very, very ignorant people think obesity is about will power. For a thin person to mock a fat person is shameful. It's a disease that medical science doesn't yet have effective cures for. Yes, stomach bands DO work, but they are expensive and dangerous. Interestingly, those who get stomach bands actually change their BRAIN FUNCTIONING to be like the brains of thin people. We know this now and the hope is eventually this brain change can be achieved medically with a much less expensive and invasive procedure. That is the hope for fat people, whatever, you call them, not diets, and not ignorant hateful psychological abuse by cruel people.

I disagree i live with a fat bitch (yes she is) at the moment, she's my step sister and weighs around 300lbs.

She has no self control and when she buys a 2 liter bottle of coke she feels like she must drink the entire dam_n thing in 1 sitting, if you have ever seen a NASCAR refuel, thats about what its like.

She does not eat vegetables and is too lazy to cook. She has cake nights where she will tear up an entire tray of cupcakes, and wash it all down with a 2 liter bottle of sweet tea. She doesn't like being told what to do, and if someone tells her to eat less, she just eats more for spite. She has a take it or leave it attitude towards life...and i'd gamble and say most people have left it.

Lack of self control and greed are characteristics i have observed in every overly fat bastard i have ever met, man or woman.

She would rather have it handed to her than try harder.

Watching a series now on bbc1 called

The men who made us fat ..

If I want to see the men who made us fat I look in a mirror rolleyes.gif

It was a good series, but became repetitive after the first two.

It pilloried the fast food providers, but also the big manufacturers of 'normal' food products. The sdditives that are included to make the taste of the product more appealing almost invariably include corn syrup, which is a serious threat to keeping weight off.

Eat natural products in moderate amounts and you are in control of your body. Go for almost any canned or frozen food and you are putting yourself in the hands of these men-who-make-you-fat. Eat ready-meals and you are doomed. That's the message.

Wasn't it our brains that made us fat? After all, Science has discovered.....

Science is always very particular to document its evidence. Quoting Science without the necessary documentation (links, in Forumspeak) is meaningless.

Dr Pierre Dukan, whose weight-loss plan has been followed by the likes of Francois Hollande and Carole Middleton, said he “suffered” for those who were seriously overweight.

He told a Sunday newspaper: “It’s a mental problem. I’ve never seen an obese person who has said, ‘I am well in the mind.”

He said he felt sorry for the obese.

"I suffer for them," he said. "I like them because they are not really ill, like with the cancer, but feel they are outside of society.... I want to help.

I blame the city planners for allowing a kebab shop to be situated between the pub and my home.

Edit: Actually...I'm not fat....and I suppose I should thank them for the swimming baths in Dalry....a nod to the Victorian fathers of planning.

There is a program on BBC called supersize vs super skinny , and the doctor on the program insists people are only fat via food ! Really good program , as the fatties do eat shed loads of <deleted> ! ....
