Hey Guys

Visiting Bangkok for 2 days in July.. first time visitor.. here are my queries

2) we have 2 full days in BKK.. what we were thinking of doing was

a) day one evening: roof top dinner or something @ lebua or similar OR Bangkok Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River

B) full day: Thailand's Ayutthaya Temples and River Cruise from Bangkok

Evening: Bangkok Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River (if back in time)

c) day three morning: Bangkok's Grand Palace Complex and Wat Phra Kaew Tour

Evening: Bangkok Dinner Cruise on the Chao Phraya River OR walk around shopping area of siam square

NOTE: the dinner cruise is only slated for one day.. but listing as don't know time for each day

3) our return flight is midnight.. how to get back to airport from BTS Saphan Taksin Station area and how much time is good in hand??

Any other suggestions plans if you could state will be great

cheers

The taxi is the simplest method to get from Suvarnabumi airport to a hotel near Saphan taxi will take about 45mins to an hour and cost about 400 baht.

The same applies for the return journey - about B350 (50 baht of the outbound journey is airport surcharge).

On both journeys ensure they take the Express way / Toll way (you can pay the tolls yourself - 40 baht or 25 baht per toll booth - this is included in the cost estimate).

Note: Stationary taxi's hanging around outside your hotel are likely to try and rip you off - its better to flag down a moving taxi and ensure they run the meter.

Someone will probably recommend doing the trip in from the airport cheaper, by using the airport link. But with luggage this really is a hassle as it will involve changing trains etc.. The taxi option will take roughly the same time...

Evening roof top dinners are lovely - of course, weather dependent though.

The Grand Palace and Wat Pha Keaw (sp?) are in the same compound - its part of one entry ticket. When you get near, do not believe the touts who will tell you the Grand Palace is closed and advise to take you somewhere else. Wear long trousers and shoes or sandals with a heel strap, also no vests (cover your shoulders).

Another easy way to get from Suvarnabhumi to Saphan Taksin

is to take the airport link from airport to Phaya Thai, then from

phya thai take the Sky Link to Saphan Thaksin

Very straight forward, Airport link will cost maybe 50 thb and

sky link will bost 35 thb.

If you do not have a lot of luggage this is great alternative.

Then depending on how close you staying to Saphan Taksin

you can walk it or moped taxi

Things to see on short visit include

Grand palace, Wat Arun and Wat Po

Evening go for nice meal or go to night markets

Metered taxi from (and back to) the airport is the best option; it will cost a few pounds / euros / dollars.

Getting back to the airport at midnight shouldn't take long; if you leave the hotel 3 hours before your flight departs you will be fine (obviously worth double-checking on TV closer to the time that there is no planned road closures or other obstacles likely to delay your journey).

Your plan on what to do is sensible. I found Bangkok to be rather confusing and daunting the first time I visited and would recommend you plan as much as possible where you will be doing and how you will get there. I wish I had known before my first visit than it is not a good idea to walk nor to take tuk-tuks.

Does your hotel have a nice (and reasonably priced) spa? Bangkok has some amazing spas and the prices are generally very reasonable. You should certainly consider incorporating some spa time into your trip. You will appreciate the respite from the madness of Bangkok.

Reiterating what others have said - taxi meter from the airport (make sure you get it from the counter outside the airport NOT inside). BTS is okay if you don't have luggage.

Chao Phraya cruises tend not to be the best meals; but they are worth the sight seeing. The diner cruise from the Anantara Riverside (what was the Marriot) is one of the best and you get there from the free boat at Saphan Taksin.

Yes, do the temples, certainly Grand Palace but in 2 days wouldn't consider Authaya.

If you have a lady with you (!) you should consdier some shopping - Siam Paaragon, Siam Square, MBK, depending on your budget.

Also from Saphan Taksin, would suggest going to the Grand Palace on the Chao Phraya river boats to get more sight seeing.

Enjoy your trip

Suggest that 4 hours is better. The traffic can get badly snarled up and there can be long queues at immigration.

Better to have an hour to kill airside than getting anxious in a late running taxi smile.png

I would consider a morning bycicle tour.. From 08.00-12.00 you'll see the real local life, even some nature, and still have the rest of the day free for other things. My best experiance was with abc biking. Sukhumvit soi26 also very easy to reach by skytrain from saphan taksin
