Callcenter Scam

Featured Replies

I keep a UK mobile phone which is on a continuous contract even though I'm based in Thailand now. I rarely receive calls on this number and when I do it's never from Thai numbers because I haven't given the number out to anyone. I use my Thai number when I'm in Thailand.

So I was surprised to receive a missed call yesterday and again today from the same number, apparently it's a Thai number somewhere in the south.

After doing a google search I found this page : http://guru.google.c...e25661c851bf0f0

The page is in Thai. I had someone Thai look over the above URL and they report it's one of these scams where people prentend to send expensive goods to you and then try and collect a fee, 'customs duty' or some of ther kind of advance fee fraud.

The question here is - how did they get my UK phone number ? I haven't issued it to anyone in Thailand - nobody knows it at all.

Very strange.

Just to clarify - the number calling was 074317090

Well the local phone system computers would know about it if its on here, and I doubt if there's much security around those kind of records, a few pink bills here and there are probably all that's needed to get whatever records are needed out of any database in the kingdom. . .

Your network provider knows your in Thailand. Think about when you first arrive in Thailand and turn your phone on, you get messages welcoming you. It could be your provider that is giving your number out for a fee to advertising companies. It could also be the company you are roaming with whilst in Thailand that's passing your number on.

If you type in the telephone number into your browser, it then comes up with a website which is pertinent to this number.
