Why not go a step further and put two 42" flat screens in the cell, so that after sex she can watch Coronation St whilst he watches Top Gear.

Jeez, aren't they supposed to be in there for punishment. Put something in their food to supress sexual urges. Not that I think they should get free food, of course.

While it may not be constitutional to feed them chemicals that suppress the urges, isn't it part of the punishment that they have these urges but cannot fulfill them?

Good point, well made.

There could be an arrangement made, that no sex offender prisoner would even want a second go.

An arrangement? A second go at what? One hates to think. Oh, I know, half the people on this forum hate to think anyway.

Heterosexual rapists or kiddy fiddlers should be allowed if not forced to have visits by big, powerlifting homosexual inmates in the privacy of their own cell...........It's only fair

Another part of the business involves me visiting prisons all over the country (UK). Basically we invented a portable hydraulic device that would open a barricaded cell door.

Anyway I was at Hmp Whatton about 20 months back where I got the report that a con had suffocated his cell mate in the night and then flipped him over and gave him one.

So you see, sex is available in prison.

I've gone months ( and even up to a year ) without a sexual partner and I've always found my left hand and a good imagination to be a more than suitable substitute for my mates' hairy <deleted>. biggrin.png

I really don't have a strong opinion one way or the other on the issue with the exception of those that are in prison for sexual offenses. Sex is part of their criminal behavior and a part of their problem. Depriving them of sex may be seen as a valid treatment issue.

The other concern I have is that prisoners should be prevented from procreating while they are incarcerated unless they or their spouse can show adequate means of support for the child. Do we want the welfare rolls increasing while the ol' man (or ol' lady, I guess) is in the slammer?

Says a lot about the UK when there are more prisoner support groups than pensioner support groups. If yhey can't do the time don't do the crime.

I don't hold much of a brief for the prisoner-support groups in the UK, as there is little need for them.

In my ten years in Libya, however, I used to visit Western prisoners in the jail outside Benghazi, where they may not have had any Arabic language nor any food. The conditions there were really bad and were a big deterrent to committing any offence. The way, to me, that prison should be.

I know there is an argument that such conditions in the UK (or anywhere in Europe) would be against HR laws, but so what. Punish the <deleted>**ers.

As to having sexual congress during their incarceration - I wouldn't even allow any visits. Bang 'em up and sweat 'em. But teach them literacy and trade skills, if they need them. No cigarettes, no drugs, healthy food, exercise.

It may interest you to know that condoms in all male prisons are on free issue.

I agree with you, HB, with one caveat. If you don't let the wives visit long-term prisoners, you risk a break-up of the family. I'm not concerned about the wives, but about the children. We have enough broken families without engineering more.

Understood, but at the moment I'm reading a Martina Cole novel (doesn't matter which one, they're all the same)

The novels are based on habitual criminal families, so would it be better if these families were broken up and the kids put in care?

As long as someone takes hold of the care system and shakes it up from top to bottom.

Many years ago my father, who had more of a social conscious than I did, gave a job to an ex-con.

He was strictly small time, he had been involved with bigger crims and gave up the life when the sentences started getting longer.

I worked with him occasionally and on our breaks he told me a bit about life behind bars and assured me it was harder to do time when you were younger and more sexually active. (Your best screwing years was the term he used).

Years later I saw in the paper he was in jail again, this time for killing a man his wife had run off with.

As his jail was in the city I lived in I went up to pay a visit and he told me he had been wrong.

Jail, he said, was worse when you got older because you realised that your sex life was nearly over and there would be no catching up when you got out.

Hopefully he found some solace in Viagra, then unheard of, on release.
