I assume this is the 48R form for an application for a visa to Australia?

If so, to answer the first question, a more acceptable answer might be "all expenses incurred during my trip to Australia will be fully met by my boyfriend, <insert name>", and then add something along the lines of "please see attached current bank statements to support my claim".

Q35 is more aimed at determining if the application was filed by a visa service agency on behalf of your girlfriend... answer no.

The best approach I feel, is to have your girlfriend fill out the entire form herself, in her own handwriting.

Other members may have differnt opinions, but this method has worked twice for me in the past.

Good luck.

Question 3,(other names including aliases),she has nick name from working in the bar and the nick name is what she uses for e/mail address, should this be put down as a aliases..

Sorry for the multiple entries,Question 19/(Why do you want to visit australia) what would be good wording for this answer...

Posted

Q3 - most Thais (male and female) have nicknames that differ from their proper name or rather, that shown on their ID card. It's OK to put this here, but I would refrain from mentioning anything about working in a bar.

Q19 - What is the real reason? Are the two of you visitng family and friends? Are you touring on holiday?

You must establish the fact that she is not being taken to Oz as a trophy, that she is in a genuine relationship with you, that she is not going to find work there, and that she is definitely going to return to Thailand etc.

If this is her first application, then she will most likely be called in for an interview, and there will be many questions about how she met you, how well she knows you etc.

How long did she work in a bar - I am not sure how well that will be recieved by the Visa processing people

she only breithly worked in a bar for a couple of weeks and has supporting documents of employment and is currently employed.i was not going to mention her working in a bar,i also did not think they called an interview for tourist visa..she is visisting me to spend time with me and see my country friends and family and i state all this in my LETTER OF INVITE,do you think that will be asufficient link to the question of why are you going to australia.

I think they will want an interview for the first visa.

Good idea to avoid anything about bars.

Remember also they will only grant a 3 month visa on the first application.

Hutchy...will give you the answers to your questions.

Q3......you can put down the nickname that she uses in her daily life...if the e mail one is different dont worry about it.

Q19....you are applying for a short stay visa.....you can put holiday or tourism here ....Holiday is better

Q29....what you have wrote is sufficient but it will need supporting evidence, Payslips and a JP signed Stat dec....

Q35....You can put your name here....no probs

There will be no interview for this application....you may be granted an interview at the embassy if you appeal a refusal of visa.

The form must be filled out in english....if she fills it in, in Thai, it will not get looked at....the farang staff process the applications not the Thai staff. The VFS staff will tell you this when you go there.

A letter of invite will hold no water whatsoever....it is not a legal document......do yourself a favour and do up a stat dec and get it signed by a Justice of Peace.....this will be looked on more favourably than just a letter.

If you dont want to declare her employment in the bar then dont do it.....she can be unemployed and as long as you are supporting her, she wont need money in the bank or a letter from her employer. She will need to declare her last job though. Contrary to popular belief, working in a bar will not affect her chances of her getting a visa....the government know that many of the girls who come here have met their guys while working in a bar...they are not stupid....All they want to ensure is that there is no drain on the public purse while she is here and that she abides by the conditions of her visa and goes back on time.

Q19.....either or both doesnt matter......There are reason why I suggest holiday is better...but this is an untested theory at this stage.

You just get a statutory declaration form from the post office and fill it out....list your intention to bring her for a holiday only....that you will support her financial, medical, transport, accomodation and general living costs while she is here, That you will ensure she abides by her visa conditions and you know the penalties for making a false statement....($10,000 and/or 3 years). Sign it in front of a JP. You can do a letter to cover other items...if you wish but the Stat dec is usually sufficient.

Also provide evidence of knowing her for longer than 6 months...without this, it will not be approved.

Is there any set time you would need to wait for re applying after a refusal?

Not that I am aware of......however if the length of time you have known her is the problem then it would perhaps be prudent to wait at least a few months.

There is no reason why you cant apply after knowing her for only 6 months, you maybe successful but just be aware that it would be a borderline case.

A standard form is available from the Immigration Dept in Australia for such a purpose of financial support, you must submit the original not a fax copy or photocopy.

Not required for a short stay visa, I think what you are talking about David is the 48s form, that form is required for different circumstances but definately not for a short stay visa application.

He will require payslip originals to show that he can support her while she is here.

They will ask the girl if she wants original documents returned....tell her to make sure she says yes and ticks the box on the slip of paper that will accompany the application.

All forms can be printed off from the website and used in the application. You dont need to get one from the embassy.

Mr Burns

As I will be going down this road with Mrs Daddy later this year, I have also started to look into / download as much official info as possible. Thus far, I am yet to see any indication that suggests "all Thai documents should be translated...."

As I like to be fully prepared when dealing with officialdom, could you please supply a source for this comment.

Thank you :o

English translations

Documents in languages other than English that you provide with you partner visa application must also be accompanied by an accurate English translation of each of those documents.

If you are applying for a partner visa in Australia and you are therefore having documents translated in Australia, it is recommended that you use a translator who has been accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translations and Interpreters (NAATI). Further information on NAATI is available from their website.

See: www.naati.com.au

If you are applying for a partner visa outside Australia and you are therefore having documents translated outside Australia, it is recommended that you use a translator who is professionally qualified.

When I say documents, I dont mean personal letters etc.....but documents such as the letter from a childs father giving permission for the child to leave the country, Letters from employers, Court Documents and any other official documents. The application itself has to be in English so it makes sense that official documents need to be in English too.

If you have done the Stat Dec as I PM'd you...then you will only need that one signed by a JP....If you include your letter of invite in the Stat Dec...I believe each page will need to be signed by the JP if you have multiple pages...

The letter of invite I dont believe would need to be signed by the JP as it is not on any official form but take what you have to the JP and ask him....better safe than sorry.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. What I would like to do is, take Mrs Daddy to OZ for a holiday. (48 / 48R....whats the difference by the way?) And as one of the compelling reasons for her return to Thailand, she will show her land deeds (3) and mortgage documents (1) As previously stated, I can find no information on these, or other documents (proof of marriage for an example) needing to be translated into English when applying for this type of visa. If you can shed any more light onto this subject, I for one, would be appreciative :D

The 48R form has the section regarding funds and who will provide the funds for the visit, the 48 form doesnt have this...Basically the 48R is far more detailed.

You said she will show her deeds etc.....I am taking you literally here but they will have to be submitted as part of the application pack, if you wish to use them to support her application. Apologies if I misintepreted you.

The information you supply is kept by the Dept in Oz....Information is shared with other agencies such as the Federal Police in case the applicant becomes an unlawful immigrant. It is used to identify and locate any person who overstays or otherwise breaches their visa conditions. This is explained on the 48R form. While it doesnt state that the docs need to be in English, one would think that it would be advantageous and it would go a long way to showing that she is genuine.

The two main things that concern the Goverment here is that; She doesnt overstay her visa and that she doesnt become a burden on the taxpayer while she is here. These are the main points that you need to address in your application. This is why I advocate the use of the JP signed Stat Dec addressing length of relationship, your intent to bring her for a holiday only, your financial support of her, your assurance that she will abide by her visa conditions. It becomes a legal document and is accepted by the Embassy in Bangkok as such.

I would think though that it would be to your benefit to cover all the bases, It would be a shame if you didnt do this and her application was refused because of this...better safe than sorry eh ??

I think most of the posts here concerning visas to all countries boil down to one thing....dont take short cuts in your application...take the time to put your application together properly, and be honest.
